Movies Under The Stars August 17th is Double Feature Night: Tangled (8pm) & The Wizard of Oz (9:40pm)

Movies under the Stars is tonight starting at 8pm with a double feature of Tangled and the Wizard of Oz. The double billing is due to weather cancellations previously but the weather looks good for tonight so enjoy the show! The Hoboken Movies Under the Stars program runs just about every Wednesday during the summer months at Pier Park near the Lackawanna Train Terminal.

 August 17 – Double Feature Night: Tangled (8pm) & The Wizard of Oz (9:40pm)

Tangled (8:00pm) – Golden Globe nominee for Best Animated film 2011.  The magically long-haired Rapunzel has spent her entire life in a tower,but now that a runaway thief has stumbled upon her, she is about to discover the world for the first time, and who she really is.

Wizard of Oz (9:40pm) – Nominated for Best Picture in 1939.

Academy Award winner for best musical score & best song Over the Rainbow; Starring Judy Garland, Ray Bolger, Frank Morgan, Bert Lehr, Jack Haley, Margaret Hamilton and Billie Burke.

Movies Under the Stars Wizard of Oz Rescheduled from 8/3

Update 8/4/2011:

Last night, the Movies Under The Stars feature movie Wizard of Oz was cancelled due to rain. Here was the note from the City of Hoboken that stated it will be rescheduled:
 
Movies Under the Stars is cancelled tonight due to inclement weather. The Wizard of Oz will be rescheduled to a later date. Check the city website, www.hobokennj.org for updates.

Original Post: Movies Under the Stars August 3 – Wizard of Oz (8:30 start)

Tonight’s movie in the Movies under the Stars Series features the Wizard of Oz. This classic film was nominated for Best Picture in 1939 and was Academy Award winner for best musical score & best song Over the Rainbow.

It stars Judy Garland, Ray Bolger, Frank Morgan, Bert Lehr, Jack Haley, Margaret Hamilton and Billie Burke. Plot synopsis (like you need it):  Dorothy & her dog Toto are caught in a tornado’s path & end up in the land of Oz. Here she meets some memorable friends & foes in her journey to meet the Wizard of Oz who everyone says can help her return home & possibly grant her new friends their goals of a brain, heart & courage.

Tonight’s show starts at 8:30 pm and is a Pier A Park in Hoboken. Bring a blanket or a low rise chair.

Hoboken’s Movies Under the Stars 2011 Schedule – Wednesdays

Movies Under the Stars 2011
Presented by the City of Hoboken
Co-sponsored by Projected Images of Hudson County and
the Hudson County Division of Cultural Affairs

These FREE Outdoor Movie Screenings take place at Pier A Park, overlooking the beautiful Manhattan Skyline, located on First St. and Frank Sinatra Drive

Movies begin at 9:00 pm in June and July and around 8:15 pm in August, unless otherwise noted below. For the best seating, come early and bring a blanket or comfortable low-back chair. You may bring a picnic, but alcohol consumption is not permitted and subject to a fine.

In case of heavy rain, film presentation will be canceled. Canceled films will be rescheduled on Aug. 17 and Aug. 24 at 9:30pm following the regularly scheduled film at 8:15pm.

June 29 – Breakfast at Tiffany’s – (1961)

Starring Audrey Hepburn, George Peppard, Patricia Neal, Martin Balsam and Buddy Ebson; Directed by Blake Edwards & written by Truman Capote
Struggling writer Paul Varjak moves into a New York apartment building & becomes intrigued by his pretty, quirky neighbor Holly Golightly, whose lifestyle confuses & fascinates Paul; in public she flits through parties with a sexy, sophisticated air, but when they’re alone she changes into a sweetly vulnerable bundle of neuroses.

July 13 – The King’s Speech -

July 27 – Waiting for Superman -

Winner of the Audience Award for a Documentary at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival;
Directed by Davis Guggenheim; Written by Davis Guggenheim & Billy Kimball;
Waiting for Superman reminds us that education “statistics” have names. The filmmaker follows a handful of promising kids through a system that inhibits, rather than encourages, academic growth & undertakes an exhaustive review of public education, surveying “drop-out factories” & “academic sinkholes,” methodically dissecting the system & its seemingly intractable problems.

The toys are mistakenly delivered to a day-care center instead of the attic right before Andy leaves for college, & it’s up to Woody to convince the other toys that they weren’t abandoned & to return home.
