Here is the latest event from the folks at The Fund for a Better Waterfront in Hoboken. Without their efforts, much of Hoboken’s waterfront would be inaccessible today….
FBW Open House & Video Launch Sunday, May 19, 2013 Noon to 6 pm
Neumann Leathers Building, Fourth Floor
300 Observer Highway, Hoboken, New Jersey
The Fund for a Better Waterfront is requesting Hoboken residents to see their plans for Hoboken and 12′ architectural model of Hoboken’s waterfront. Every hour on the hour, they will present our video, an interview with FBW architect and planner Craig Whitaker who talks about the essential elements of urban design and planning. In the video, Whitaker delineates the steps required to create a successful waterfront.
FBW architect/planner Craig Whitaker is featured in new video
that will launch this May 19th at FBW Open House.
Mr. Whitaker is the principal of Craig Whitaker Architects based in NYC. He is the author of Architecture and the American Dream published in 1997. His recent design projects include preparation of a self-sustaining reuse plan for Governor’s Island, NY and a mixed-use plan for the World Trade Center site that restored much of the former street system. For fifteen years, he was the principal architect of Westway in NYC, a multi-billion dollar waterfront project.
In 1990, FBW hired Craig Whitaker to develop a plan for the Hoboken waterfront and has worked closely with Mr. Whitaker since that time. For 18 years beginning in 1988, Mr. Whitaker, as an adjunct professor, taught urban design at the Graduate Planning Program, Robert F. Wagner School of Public Service at New York University. He received his Masters of Architecture from Yale University in 1965.
In the same building, the Hoboken Gallery Walk will take place, also from noon to 6 p.m. Many artists working at the Neumann Leather Building will open up their doors to the public, so you will have an opportunity to see their artwork as well.
