Here is a free cultural event in Hoboken with a view of New York city and a quality orchestra. This program was created several years ago by the current Mayor Dawn Zimmer. This year’s selection has a variety of composers from different periods and is similar to a Boston Pops concert….
Mayor Dawn Zimmer and the City of Hoboken proudly present
NEW JERSEY SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA
PIER A PARK IN HOBOKEN
Free – No tickets required
Thursday, June 20, 2013 at 7:30pm
Bring a blanket or low back chair and a picnic
Take a seat on the lawn of Pier A Park where Music Director Jacques Lacombe leads the Orchestra in a concert of light classics and popular favorites—with a patriotic flair. As night falls, the New York City skyline lights up and is reflected in the Hudson River, making this a very unique and romantic summer symphony concert destination.
The Orchestra performs selections from Bizet’s Carmen, Copland’s Rodeo and Bernstein’s West Side Story, alongside favorite tunes from Gershwin and movie classics like John Williams’ Raiders March. Patriotic tributes include “America the Beautiful” and Sousa’s “The Stars and Stripes Forever,” and the Orchestra honors servicemen and women with the moving Armed Forces Salute.
Jacques Lacombe is the Conductor.

Hoboken resident Melissa Sawaya wanted to spread some awareness about a running event tomorrow in Hoboken on Memorial Day Monday May 27, 2013. This running event is different as the event will last pretty much all day. Melissa writes:
“I am trying to spread the word about the American Legion post in Hoboken, NJ and their program “Adopt-A-Hoboken-Soldier”. Myself and a group of runners will be running Sunrise to Sunset this Monday on Memorial Day along the Hoboken Waterfront (between the WWI & WWII Memorials) to raise money for the Hoboken Legion. We have setup the site www.MemorialMile.com to give more info on this event. This is actually the 2nd annual event.
We have more people participating this year and would love The Boken.com to cover this year’s event. “
“Join us tomorrow Mon. 5/27 for the 2nd annual “Memorial Mile” event if you’re in the NYC area! We’ll be hanging flags again along the Hoboken, NJ waterfront and have a team running that route (between the WWI & WWII Memorials) from Sunrise (5:30am) ’til Sunset (8:17pm). The Run will honor those who have sacrificed for our country.
We’re fundraising for The American Legion Post 107 so if you can’t make it out please Donate at www.MemorialMile.com
to help support all the programs the Legion provides for our local troops!”
It is supposed to rain tomorrow, which in of itself I thought is a green thing. Oh the irony! As a result of the rain forecast tomorrow the 2nd Annual Green Fair has been pushed back a week. Don’t mess with Mother Nature….
HOBOKEN’S 2ND ANNUAL GREEN FAIR POSTPONED TO SUNDAY, MAY 19
The City of Hoboken’s 2nd Annual Green Fair originally scheduled for Saturday, May 11, 2013 has been rescheduled for Sunday, May 19 due to the forecast for rain (Please note: previously the rain date was incorrectly stated as Saturday, May 18). Vendor registration is also extended until Friday, May 17.
The 2nd Annual Green Fair will be held from 11am to 5pm at Pier A Park along the Hoboken waterfront and will feature live music and organic food vendors. It is intended to introduce sustainable lifestyle choices to the community, raise awareness regarding environmental concerns, and demonstrate how consumers can reduce their impact on the earth by selecting sustainable, eco-friendly products and services, reducing energy consumption, conserving water and limiting their dependence on fossil fuels.
A compost bin will be on-site and residents are encouraged to bring any compostable materials (coffee grounds, grass clippings, peanut shells, etc.) they may be storing at home.
Green businesses or non-profits whose mission aligns with environmental sustainability are invited to participate in the Green Fair. The Green Team is also reaching out to involve the local arts community. Interested vendors can submit the online registration form at www.hobokennj.org/greenfair and contact Christopher Brown at firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions. The final day for registration is Friday, May 17, 2013.
Today’s photo of the day was taken last weekend at Hoboken’s Pier A Park with a view of the World Trade Center’s Freedom Tower. The green grass and lovely weather a testament that Spring has finally sprung in Hoboken.
Today’s photo of the day is from Pier A Park and features office buildings during a nice sunset. The weather was cold but this shot made it worth going out to get it.
Today’s Hoboken Photo of the Day is Pier A Park taken yesterday in the blustery cold. Here is the same photo in sepia…
