Tasteful Tailgating Tips from Chef Anthony Pino

Here are some tasteful tailgating tips for Hoboken Football fans from Chef Anthony Pino of AD Catering | Events, Anthony Davids, Bin 14, and the Kolo Klub…..

Tailgaters have always taken their pre-game drinking seriously, but are now equally serious about their pre-game eats. “You don’t just see the standard burgers and hot dogs at sporting events anymore,” stated Chef Anthony Pino of AD Catering|Events. “As you stroll through the crowds gathered at sporting events these days you will find a wide range of tailgating fare, from specialty cheeses to elaborate lobster and steak dinners.” Chef Pino knows a thing or two about pre-game entertaining; his company AD Catering|Events provides gourmet prepared food for those headed to the local Giants and Jets games at MetLife Stadium, or to those cheering on their teams with friends at home.

A tip Chef Pino offers to those planning to entertain: nothing makes a party better for host and guest alike, than to offer guests delicious items that require minimal hands-on assistance. He also gives a word of advice when prepping for pre-game entertaining. “Know your limits. If you want to have fun and enjoy your guests’ company, plan your menu using food items that can be prepared ahead of time, so all you will need to do is warm and display.”

A smorgasbord of AD Catering Events food

In addition, he and his team based in Hoboken, regularly put together a wide range of options for the local crowd who are off to outdoor events such as The Hunt in Far Hills, NJ, or are simply inspired to enjoy the fall weather and scenery with private picnics and wine tastings. Chef Pino continued, “Customers are ordering take-away platters ranging from the high end – lamb chops, filet, seafood, to the basic – sausage and peppers, sandwiches and cheese, as they head off to their fall festivities.” He smiles as he says, “What goes together better than fresh autumn air and foliage paired with good food and wine?”

Tim Tebow to Live in Hoboken–Let the Tebowing Begin!

Filed under: Hoboken,Hoboken Celebrity,NY Jets,Sports — Tags: , , , , , , — TheBoken @ 7:10 PM

Tim Tebow on Washington Street

It has finally being reported from a legitimate news source that NFL QB Tim Tebow is indeed moving to Hoboken now that he has been traded to the NY Jets from the Denver Broncos. The NY Post is reporting that Tebow has signed a lease to rent a two-bedroom pad at 2 Constitution Court, a 13-story luxury condo building overlooking the New York skyline in uptown Hoboken. Eli Manning, two time Super Bowl winning QB for the NY Giants who lives in the Hudson Tea Building with his wife will now be neighbors with Tim. Hoboken now sure has its fair share of NFL quarterbacks.

Drunken Polar Bear’s Hoboken Weekend Outlook December 16-18, 2011

Happy Friday Hobokenites!  Another week in the books and now it’s time to look ahead to the weekend.  Unlike other local blogs, we here at TheBoken go the extra (square) mile and help you plan your weekend with more than just hyperlinks and unseasonable shorts wearing…..

Winds Strong enough to knock over a Drunken Polar Bear!

Weather Outlook

Although we warmed up a bit at the end of the week, Friday’s weather will be cooler (45 degrees), but characterized by heavy wind and gusts up to 45 mph!  Batten down the hatches!  Heavy winds will pass late Friday and pave the way for a calm and sunny weekend that will be a bit chilly.  Highs Saturday and Sunday will be 41 and 38 with lows at night dipping slightly below the freezing mark.

Local Sports Action

Two BIG wins for the football teams last weekend and another slate of big games this weekend as both teams look to keep their playoff hopes alive:

-          The Giants return home to square off in an important game against fellow NFC Easters, Washington Redskins at 1pm (Fox).

-          The Jets face a difficult match up down I-95 against a banged up Michael Vick and the Eagles at 415pm (CBS).

Hockey updates – Devils host the visiting Dallas Stars Friday (8pm) and then travel up to Montreal for a Saturday night match up (7pm).  The Rangers look to end their losing streak by traveling out to Phoenix for a Saturday night match up (8pm) against the Coyotes.  The Islanders are also in action on Saturday night (8pm) against Minnesota.

What’s Going on Around Town?

-          Wrap Your Gifts for a Good Cause – True Mentors will be featuring some of the best gift wrappers in Hoboken at Ben and Jerry’s and Hudson Tavern so you can just relax after all that holiday shopping.  Donations for wrapping will go to support True Mentors matching children in Hoboken ages 7 – 17 with caring adult mentors in Hoboken.

-          Mile Square Theater continues their run of the holiday classic – It’s a Wonderful Life

-          Celebrate Hanukkah Hoboken Style – The Jewish Young Adults of Hoboken will be staging a Hanukkah party and bar crawl on Saturday kicking off at 5pm.

-          Lights, Camera, Action – with the Golden Globe nominations coming out Thursday morning you may be inspired to hit the theaters.  While Hoboken only movie theater Clearview Cinemas may not be playing any Globe nominees this weekend, Sherlock Holmes 2 and Alvin & The Chipmunks: Chipwrecked premier this weekend.  And a personal favorite, The Muppets, is still playing too!

DPB’s Weekend Recommendations – 2 this week!

-          It’s the dreaded last week before Christmas and everyone is scrambling to hit the malls or rush online orders in time.  Why not make it easier and shop local?  Hit the Washington Street stretch and you can catch tons of stores and really good sales.

-          The holidays aren’t all about shopping.  There are some wonderful decorations from large scale (Rockefeller Tree) to smaller (houses decorated).  Take some time this weekend and walk around Hoboken with a warm cup of coffee/hot chocolate and check out the great decorations.  A personal favorite – the uptown brownstones on Bloomfield.

What are you all doing this weekend?  Any suggestions?

NY Sports Recap Last few days: Jets and Giants Win and No One Better Than Mo

Baseball Recap: The NY Mets have had an up and down season this year and will not make the playoffs but are still competing and that is to be commended . The NY Yankees now have a 5 game lead on the Boston Red Sox thanks to their 6-4 win yesterday over the Minnesota Twins and the Red Sox splitting a double header. It would take a historic collapse for the Yankees to not make the playoffs now.

Mariano Rivera, the greatest closer of all time in Major League Baseball notched his 602nd save to surpass Trevor Hoffman for #1 on the list. That is an impressive record in and of itself but his 42 post season saves is even more impressive. There may never be a better closer in our lifetime so Yankee fans should try to soak it all in while the guy is still on the mound. His pitch speed is still good and that cutter is still working so if we are lucky, this will not be his last year. Even if you hate the Yankees it is hard to knock this guy whose humility and low key approach to the game make us almost take for granted his mind-blowing accomplishments. It is very very rare to see sustained excellence for this long in professional sports. It just does not happen often. Hats off to Mariano Rivera, simply the best to ever play his position.

Now, on to NFL football: All three New York/New Jersey  teams won this weekend in their NFL games. The Buffalo Bills needed some major comeback magic to get the win over Oakland 38-35 and the NY Jets pounded the Jacksonville Jaguars into submission 32-3.

The Mark Sanchez to Dustin Keller connection was the key on offense and the Jets secondary did a great job all day shutting down the Jacksonville passing game.

The NY Giants beat the St. Louis Rams 28-16 relying on key defensive stops even though they gave up 331 yards in the air to Sam Bradford who is a talented QB. Justin Tuck was all over the field in that game and Hoboken resident and Giants QB Eli Manning was horrible in the first half with 4 straight 3 and outs. He picked up his game in the second half but he must play better going forward if the Giants are to even think about making the playoffs.

Hoboken was buzzing on Sunday and with all the sports bar offerings, there are plenty of choices now for NFL fans. This week Direct TV did not have any glitches so fans were all able to see their games without interruption.

Not into NY Sports?: Texas Arizona seems to be the gathering place for both Pittsburgh Steeler’s fans and Dallas Cowboys boosters. Mulligans hosts both the Eagles and Phillies Clubs and offers specials during games. Rogos has a few die hard Chicago Bears fans that don both Urlacher and Ditka jerseys.

Not into Sports?: Keep in mind, if sports is not your thing you could always head up to the Pilsener Haus at 15th and Grand Streets and catch their Oktoberfest that runs from September 16th till the end of October. They are Hoboken’s largest bar and restaurant without any TV’s.

Hoboken is about choices and there are plenty of them . Sports fan or not.
