The Cuban: Coming Soon to 333 Washington Street Hoboken

The Cuban Hoboken

Coming soon to Hoboken in the place formerly known as Nine is The Cuban. The location is at 333 Washington Street and is right next to Louise and Jerry’s. First we had nail salons, then banks, then falafal and now The Cuban and the Havana Club.

Question: With current restaurant La Isla and the Havana Club in progress over at the former Cage Bar site as well as this establishment, is Hoboken ready now for a mini Cuban explosion? Stay tuned.

Nine is Hoboken Closed for Renovations–To Become Cuban Establishment

Nine Hoboken 9-5-2011

Nine on 333 Washington Street in Hoboken is closed as of Saturday  night September 3rd.  They are re- vamping the establishment into a Cuban style restaurant.  According to a source they told staff formally on Saturday night though some likely knew in advance. This had been a rumor before this weekend and below is a photo to collaborate the story. The Nine logo has been removed from the front of the place and it was not vandalism. Construction schedule and target re-opening is not yet known at this time…

Affordable Apps, Trendy Tapas & Creative Cocktails at Nine

Coconut Shrimp

Creative cocktails? Check. Light fare that is a bit more exotic than your standard pub grub? Check. How about indoor and outdoor seating with an upscale, lounge-like feel? Check again. If you’re in the mood for all of the above, then you’ll definitely want to head to Nine on Washington between 3rd and 4th.

Cleverly named after the sum of the digits in its address (333 Washington St.), Nine is a self-proclaimed tapas lounge and martini bar. With specialty drinks like pineapple and passion fruit mojitos, grapetinis, and cucumber ginger cocktails alongside Caribbean Asian fusion fare like scallop and chorizo skewers, crispy coconut shrimp, and chicken and jalapeno croquettes, Nine is like the sophisticated older sister of all the beer-and-burger bars on Washington.

But while Nine’s atmosphere may be on the trendy side, its prices are not. Most tapas items are $12 or under, and most specialty drinks are $10. Plus, all margaritas are half-price Tuesday through Friday from 5 to 10 p.m.

Here are some of my favorites from a recent visit:

  • Chicken Satay with spicy peanut sauce
  • Vegetable dumplings with sweet ponzu sauce
  • Avocado spring rolls with a tangy dipping sauce
  • Cadillac margaritas with Grand Marnier and orange juice
