Anastasia’s Accessories, established in 1989 in Hoboken, N.J is unfortunately going out of business. Hurricane Sandy apparently packed too big of a punch for this Hoboken business that lasted 24 years. Here is their note below…
“We are sad to announce that Anastasia’s Accessories sustained significant damage from Hurricane Sandy.
While we managed to save most of our merchandise, our losses were great. Our front door, some inventory, our counter, cabinets, flooring, supplies, furniture, and fixtures were all destroyed or damaged.
Having only rebuilt a year ago from flooding as a result of Hurricane Irene, this time we have decided not to rebuild.
We have had the extreme pleasure of helping you and your friends and family shop for many beautiful items over 24 years and we are offering you one last chance to do so. We are open for business for just a few weeks to liquidate our inventory and display items. Please visit the store, make your final purchases, talk over old times and help us to celebrate 24 amazing years!”
Last night the founding partners of the Kolo Klub, Hoboken’s latest catering hall, had an invite only Grand Opening party for friends and the members of the press. Attendees from the press and local media included Hoboken Patch, Hoboken Girl, Eat Drink New Jersey, and TheBoken.comwith no presence from the self-proclaimed “most complete website about Hoboken”. Perhaps the cyber recluse webmaster wasn’t invited. I know for sure he wasn’t missed.
Complimentary drink and appetizers were provided and members of the new Kolo Klub organization git up and said a few words about the venture including Chef Anthony Pino pictured above. The event went from 6-12pm and those in attendance had a nice time. There was a magician who did some very neat tricks including bending a quarter just by concentrating. He had a variety of impressive tricks so don’t be surprised to see a magic show at this venue at some point.
A very capable and talented jazz band also provided some swank background ambiance. From this editor’s eye the place looks great and has an older European era feel about it. I place the mood of the decor in the 1930′s.
The Kolo Klub is located on the 2nd floor at 1422 Grand Street which is one floor above Hoboken’s popular beer garden Pilsenser Haus and Biergarten. Below are some photos from last night’s grand opening and more information about the new catering hall.
Chef Anthony Pino & AD Catering|Events Partner with Pilsener Haus to Launch Kolo Klub, a Stellar Catered Event Space in Hoboken
Acclaimed chef and restaurateur Anthony Pino and Pilsener Haus & Biergarten owners Andrej Ivanov and Ladislav Sebestyan are thrilled to announce a new partnership between AD Catering|Events and Pilsener Haus, the Kolo Klub. New Jersey’s newest event space, Kolo Klub will be available for bookings beginning July2012, and is located on the second floor of 1422 Grand Street in Hoboken (and online at www.koloklub.com).
Chef Pino, his spouse and business partner Liz Pino, and the team at AD Catering|Events, headed by Director of Operations Vince Crysler, are unique amongst caterers in that they help individuals and companies plan every conceivable detail of their events especially weddings from start to finish: not just menu development, but staff and service, linens, table top and rentals. Every event is distinguished by culinary excellence, and is executed with operational brilliance—from intimate gatherings to a large gala.
The Kolo Klub partnership is special because it brings an exclusive culinary and guest services provider, the Chef and team renowned for Hoboken’s Bin 14 and The Dining Room, to one breath taking loft space. Located on the2nd floor of the turn of the century building that now houses the enormously popular Biergarten, this artfully renovated 4,000 square foot loft will be available beginning July for private catered events of 25 to almost 200 guests. Jennifer Lampert of Pilsener Haus will be the in house events coordinator.
Guests will access the foyer of Kolo Klub via a private elevator, and enter the airy, expansive dining and eventshall, with it hand made vaulted wood ceiling and rows of windows on its north and east sides with a view of the Empire State Building. The spacious bar is backed by handcrafted green, white and gold tile. Period lighting and architectural details like portable subdividing screens have been incorporated into a subtle and flexible design by Jirka Kolar Interiors, the same team that brought period authenticity to life at Pilsener Haus. The Kolar and Pilsener Haus team jointly created Kolo Klub’s namesake logo; the kolo their native Czech word for bicycle and its whimsical rider evoke a playful sense of fun and creativity that will inspire events held in the space. There will also be a plush 30 seat private screening room available for guests.
Andy Ivanov, a founder of Brooklyn’s Radegast Hall, and part of the team that created Pilsener Haus and conceived Kolo Klub, states,“We couldn’t think of a better partner to create events in this space. The acclaim Chef Pino and his AD team have received, not to mention the reputation that their Hoboken restaurants enjoy, will make Kolo Klub a culinary and celebratory destination.”“Now we have a home,” says Chef Pino.“We intend to make Kolo Klub a place for unforgettable gatherings. To have a space-like this as a base of operations is inspiring, and we look forward to out doing ourselves with each event.”

TheBoken.com got a sneak preview of an exciting business opening up above the Pilsenser Haus in Hoboken soon called the Kolo Klub last week . It is a banquet and performance hall by the same owners of the well received and run Pilsener Haus. The decor is reminiscent of a time at least 100 years ago. The space is divided into tow areas a main hall which seats close to 200 patrons and a smaller party room that seats 25-30.
The place is still not completed but is anticipated to open soon. Chef Anthony Pino will be responsible for catering the food and private events like weddings corporate parties are expected in addition to musical acts as well as acts as diverse as a possible magic show. The owners of the Pilsener Haus are batting 1.000 so far with pre-opening buzz. If the success of the Pilsener Haus to date is any indication I think we have another home run on our hands in Hoboken. The details of this new hall are really well conceived and executed and a rent-able space for special events is something that Hoboken can use more of.

Pomme Frites located at 207 Washington Street in Hoboken has closed for business. The Belgian fry place has pulled out of town and the rental signs are now up at the location. They had recently tried items such as hot dogs and fried Oreos but perhaps the foot traffic in Hoboken was not enough for this business model. Maybe a bustling area in NYC a place like this would fare much better. Share your thoughts in the comments below as to why you think this place couldn’t cut the mustard or pass the ketchup.
Cugini Kitchen located at 918 Washington Street has undergone some renovations recently. The interior now has a nice new fresh look.Cugini Kitchen is where Joe’s Meats used to be until Joe the Butcher sold the business. Their phone number is 201-656-8085.
They have a note on the storefront that says:
“Please Pardon Our Appearance
We are in the process of creating a wonderful space as well as improving our menu to bring you a place of comfort that is inviting to everyone. We encourage any and all suggestions please email them to mariahojnowski@yahoo.com. “
There is now scaffolding around new fitness center Planet Fitness in Hoboken located between 6th and 7th Street on Washington Street although this older photo does not indicate it. It looks like the modifications to get final inspection have taken longer than management expected as indicated in the customer letter shown below. Their new tentative target date is now no later than February 7th according to their Regional Manager Mark Sajdak. The good news is that they will not bill until March 17th. This is a good way for a business to show customers that they are trying to make good on the delay. They will not be able to open until they get the CO (Certificate of Occupancy) and final inspections. Below is the letter to customers which reads very apologetic…
Dear [Customer],
Due to town requirements, Planet Fitness Hoboken’s opening will be delayed longer than expected. While we do not yet have a definitive date, we can assure you that we will be open no later than February 7th.
Any members billed for January will receive a refund. In addition,we will be postponing everyone’s first billing until Mar. 17, 2012, though again, we will be fully operational by Feb. 7. The free time is our thank you for your understanding. You may continue to use any of our open facilities, without charge, and we will notify you via email as soon as we’re open.
We would like you to know that we’ve never missed a targeted opening date before, and that this is not how we conduct our business. We had every intention of opening the club on time as promised, right up to the last minute, and deeply regret failing to do so. We take our members trust in us very seriously and work hard to keep it. We think you’ll see that when we open our doors. Thank you again for your patience.

Erica Reilly is a Hoboken mom who recently created a line of pack n’ play travel bags called Bovers. They are hands-free bags for portable cribs with adjustable shoulder straps, stylish quilted fabric, and dual sheet and rod pockets.
She named them “Bover” after her son Bowe depicted with her in the photo below. The other influence behind the name was the concept of the “throw over your shoulder” thing. This product was designed by a young mom for other moms, they’re machine washable, fully lined and can be monogrammed. Can you say “Boveriffic”! Yes. TheBoken just made up a word but Erica made a whole new product from a great idea.
The bags are also for sale at Hoboken baby boutique Bellie and Katrina 159 4th Street Hoboken NJ, 07030. Their number is (201) 239-0062 and website is bellieandkatrina.com.
TheBoken celebrates such innovation and wishes Erica well as she tries to grow her business from Hoboken.
Here is a customer testimonial from Farrah in South Carolina:
I travel quite a bit with my children, and need all of the help that I can get lugging my two pack and plays, bags, stroller, etc.. (as well as the kids themselves!) from the car to the hotel or house. Most of the time I have my husband help me, but when he isn’t there- it’s up to me to get all of our stuff from place to place. The Bover Bag is an awesome product that looks as pretty as it is functional. I can put a pack and play (as well as some other necessities) into the bag and because of the sturdy strap, I can carry it to free up my hands. There really isn’t anything else like it on the market as pack and plays are an odd shape and don’t have a bag that can fit them like the Bover Bag.
A source of TheBoken has confirmed that Apple has looked at this location on Washington Street for a potential location for one their Apple Stores in Hoboken NJ. Whether or not there is a high level of interest on Apple’s part has yet to be confirmed.
This could also be a good location for an reataurant like Outback Steakhouse or some other large chain restaurant at a medium price point.
