Hoboken resident and Hoboken Shelter advocate Erica sent in this note how you can help Hoboken families of limited financial means this Holiday Season…..

Shop for a Family for Thanksgiving

Hurricane Sandy left many Hoboken families in need of food. We can help brighten Thanksgiving for these families through a program of the Hoboken Food Pantry. When you shop for your own family, shop for one other family. Fill a shopping bag with these items:

  • Stuffing
  • Gravy
  • Canned yams
  • Canned vegetables
  • Cranberry sauce
  • Cookies, pies or other desserts

(Don’t buy turkeys. Turkeys will be supplied by other community organizations.)

Drop off the shopping bag at:

Hoboken Food Pantry
411 Clinton St.
Monday thru Wednesday
1:30 pm to 7:30 pm

Or drop off the shopping bag at a benefit concert for the Hoboken Food Pantry organized by the Redeemer Presbyterian Church. The concert is  6 pm, Sunday, November 18 at the  St. Matthew Trinity Lutheran Church
located on the corner of Hudson St. and 8th St. in Hoboken New Jersey.

Hurricane Sandy Relief Charity Drive for the Hoboken Shelter Tonight at Trinity 7:30pm

Here is a note from the Hoboken Social Sandbox on their Happy Tonight at Trinity to get goods for the Hoboken Shelter which has been strained like many of us by the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy….

“It has been a rough time for us recently, but it is finally starting to feel a bit better and it looks like we even have a beautiful sunny day today!

We now have 50 people RSVP’d for tonight’s charity drive for the Hoboken Shelter. Currently the shelter is very low on Sugar, coffee, cereal and toilet paper.

If you will be joining us and have not yet RSVP’d please do so at: http://www.hobokensocialsandbox.com/events/84365672/

We will be starting at 7:30PM and I will be giving out wristbands to everyone. I will be wearing a glow stick pendent so you will be able to easily spot me. We will also be taking donations near the door. You can donate money instead of items if you wish and donations are totally voluntary (meaning that you don’t have to donate anything to attend the event).

A special thanks to Michelle who has volunteered to drive the donations over to the shelter.

Looking forward to seeing many of you tonight!”

Hoboken’s Thanksgiving Food Drive 2011

Below is an update from the City of Hoboken on the Thanksgiving Food Drive for 2011…

HOBOKEN THANKSGIVING FOOD DRIVE

The City of Hoboken is partnering with Hoboken’s interfaith community on a food drive to support the Hoboken Shelter and the In Jesus’ Name Food Pantry.

“During these difficult economic times, our shelter and food pantries are struggling to support the growing number of our neighbors who need help,” said Mayor Dawn Zimmer. “We’re proud to partner with our interfaith community, and I ask residents to consider supporting those in need during this Thanksgiving food drive.”

In City Hall, three collection bins are located at the Parking Utility, on the first floor across from the security desk, and on the second floor outside the Mayor’s office. The items that are most needed are canned goods, pastas, and soups. Collection bins will be located in City Hall through Tuesday, November 22nd.

The Hoboken Clergy Coalition will host Hoboken’s 2011 Interfaith Thanksgiving Service on Sunday, November 20 at 4pm at the United Synagogue of Hoboken, 115 Park Avenue. The service highlights Hoboken’s religious and cultural diversity and includes the participation of priests, ministers and rabbis in Hoboken, together with prayers and musical presentations from various religious traditions.

The service will also include a collection of food for the In Jesus’s Name Food Pantry at Our Lady of Grace Church (411 Clinton Street), and a collection of funds for the Hoboken Shelter (300 Bloomfield Street).
