Nomad Truck Hoboken Grand opening at Village Pourhouse 4-13-2013
Mobile Fashion Truck to Launch in Greater NYC Area – Boutique Brings Haute Wheels to Hoboken in April

Nomad, the mobile retail boutique, today announced that after four months of construction and almost a year of planning, it will hit the road and roll up its doors on April 13th, 2013, with a grand opening celebration outside of the Village Pourhouse located at 205 1st Street  in Hoboken, NJ. The launch party will run from 11am – 4pm and will offer drink specials at the Village Pourhouse for Nomad customers.

The carefully curated mobile fashion boutique offers trendy ladies’ fashions for under $100. All inventory is handpicked by Jessie Goldenberg, founder and CEO, who established Nomad after observing the overwhelming success of the food truck industry and the growing trend of pop-up shops.

Nomad will showcase handmade and local designers, many of which Goldenberg found via Etsy.com and through her experience vending under the Nomad banner in more traditional booth set-ups since early January. Some of the fashions already on board include beaded stacker bracelets by NYC based Harmony L, minimalist mixed-metal pieces by local Hoboken favorite hbkco., and flowy printed tops by Ya Los Angeles and Mono B.

“I want to build a (mobile) place where my customers – young, creative women – can have fun shopping without breaking the bank,” says Goldenberg, “A place that is convenient and affordable, inspiring and intimate. And of course there should be good music.”

Goldenberg, a filmmaker turned full-time fashionista, graduated from NYU Tisch with a slew of production credits under her belt and a whirlwind of ideas in her head. With Nomad, Goldenberg seeks to combine her artistic eye and love of travel to create a fun and novel shopping experience for customers in the region.

While Nomad will be parked primarily in Hoboken, NJ, this mobile retail boutique will offer private party services, visit local colleges, and vend at NYC Flea Markets and street fairs. Locations for the upcoming week will be posted on the website and advertised via social media.

For more information, or to book a private event with the truck, visit www.thenomadtruck.com.

About the Nomad Truck

Nomad is a fully functioning boutique on wheels, traveling around the greater New York City Area. Nomad operates out of the back of a 24’ long renovated stepvan with roughly 100 square feet of shopping space. The rear door rolls up, steps are attached, and viola – it’s transformed into a carefully curated boutique adorned with racks of trendy ladies’ fashions, accessories, and jewelry. Nomad showcases the work of local designers and artisans, and offers a wide selection of handmade, one-of-a-kind merchandise.

Hoboken Host Committee and Hoboken Girl Present Monday Makeovers Starting July 9th with Mayor Zimmer

Fashion and Football meet on the gridiron of the Hoboken retail scene with Monday Makeovers to start with Hoboken’s own Mayor Dawn Zimmer. The Hoboken Girl website  www.Hobokengirl.com, will be covering this series that spans multiple stores in Hoboken. Read below for more details….

"MONDAY MAKEOVERS"

With the 2014 Super Bowl coming to the New York Metro Area, Hoboken’s small business community preps for the big game by showcasing its appeal as a hot spot for commerce and tourism!

Monday Makeover Logo

The Hoboken Host Committee, an independent initiative spearheaded by members of the community in an effort to optimize Hoboken’s commercial and tourism appeal in preparation for the 2014 Super Bowl, is pleased to announce the launch of its "Monday Makeovers" program, beginning July 9 and continuing throughout the summer.
What does a fashion makeover have to do with the Super Bowl?

Committee Chairman Scott Katz says, “The motivation of this committee is to get people actively engaged in events and activities that emphasize the spirit of cooperation and support found in Hoboken’s business community. With a wide range of terrific shopping options, the city’s boutiques seem like a great place to start.”

THE GAME PLAN

Every Monday, from July 9 though the end of summer, boutiques will do a “makeover” that will be videotaped and then posted on www.Hobokengirl.com, giving viewers a chance to comment and learn more about the stores visited. Representing City Hall’s ongoing commitment to small business, Hoboken Mayor Dawn Zimmer will participate in the first three installments of "Monday Makeovers."

"Shopping locally is a convenient and fun way to support our local businesses," says Mayor Zimmer. "I’m excited to be part of this effort to showcase some of the great boutiques that make Hoboken a wonderful place to shop." The Mayor will be at Dear Hannah (503 Washington Street) on July 9, Air Studios (92 Hudson Street) on July 16 and Iconic Fashion Lounge (509 Washington Street) July 23. These stores will be selecting outfits for the Mayor to try on. Fellow shoppers hunting for that great new look are welcome to join the Mayor, as she explores the wealth of shopping opportunities right here in the Mile Square.

Switching gears to Hoboken’s youngest residents, "Monday Makeovers" will continue on July 30, with Baby Olivia Dunn being outfitted at Bellie & Katrina (159 4th St) and again on August 6, with K.C. Kids (463 5th Street). On August 13, 6th Ward Councilwoman Jen Giattino will transition the program back to women’s fashion for the remaining "Monday Makeovers," with Sweet Nicholas (718 Washington Street), Revival Vintage (47 Harrison Street) and Townhouse 620 (620 Washington Street) all
confirmed to participate in the showcase.

FROM FASHION TO FOOTBALL

"Monday Makeovers" will conclude with a party and prize drawing on Sept 10, coinciding with the first NFL Monday Night Football game of the season. Donated prize items will include a $200 gift certificate to 10th & Willow Bar & Grill (935 Willow Avenue), two free tickets to a wine tasting event and a $50 gift certificate to purchase wine from Court Street (61 6th Street), a $100 gift certificate from Cork City (239 Bloomfield Street) and a consultation plus two free acupuncture sessions at Ariel’s Apothecary (80 Park Avenue).

HUDDLE UP, HOBOKEN

Offering breathtaking views, renowned nightlife, fantastic restaurants, fabulous boutiques and convenient walkability, Hoboken is looking to provide visitors to the New York Metro Area with an easier, more affordable travel alternative as they come to town for the big game—not just in 2014, but for any upcoming NFL weekend. Hoboken serves as the railhead for New Jersey Transit, which provides a direct train to MetLife Stadium that runs frequently on game day. By putting its best foot forward, Hoboken can be the big winner on game day—but it takes a team effort. For more information on the Hoboken Host committee, contact Scott Katz at HobokenHostCommittee@gmail.com.

On Saturday May 5th from 11am to 7pm 55 Group will be hosted a fashioned based pub crawl for their three stores all located downtown in Hoboken only several blocks from each other. The Three stores are Platform at 100 Bloomfield Street, 1fifyfive at 55 First Street, and Air Studios located at 92 Hudson Street. Drinks will be available at all three locations and as the flyer implies at least Cornona and Patron’ will be available. Nothing like being a bit tipsy for the runway. All kidding aside this event sounds like fun for women in need of some wardrobe updates and a penchant for fashion.

1fiftyfive of Hoboken Grand Opening Last Weekend

1fiftyfive Hoboken
This last weekend on Saturday March 24th, TheBoken.com along with Hoboken Girl met up with PR representative Kate Phelan for the Grand Opening for the new store she is promoting 1fiftyfive, a women’s clothing and accessories store located at 155 First Street in Hoboken.

1fiftyfive can be described with the following words that came from  Kate Phelan: casual, colorful, every day, travel, beach, and Hamptonesque. This location carries women’s casual clothing, bathing suits, t-shirts, tanks tops, flip flops, casual bags, and even a line of luggage for women on the go.  Brands include MZ Wallace, Riller & Fount Riller & Fount,Veronica M,Vicky Moreinis,  Aquarius, Tees by Tina, and Ipenema just to name a few.

Air Studios, the store that was previously at this location is now at a bigger location at 92 Hudson Street Right around the corner and that has a focus on more upscale clothing lines. Rounding out the Hoboken consortium of fashion stores under the same owner is the store Platform on 1st and Bloomfield Street that focuses more on shoes. Kate remarked that the store is about travel beach and everyday wear and it is still in its conceptual phase. As such customers should check in periodically for new arrivals.

Here is wishing them luck at this new store location and new theme. Men’s clothing stores are limited in Hoboken but it seems there is quite a potential market for women’s clothing stores given the number of recent openings.

Note: Neighboring store Air Studios located at 92 Hudson Street now has completed their new sign. The store is very attractive inside and underwent more extensive renovations than its sister store 1fiftyfive.

Air Studios Boutique - 92 Hudson Street Hoboken, NJ

After 13 years at 55 First St., Air Studios has relocated and expanded one of Hoboken’s favorite upscale women’s boutiques. They outgrew their quaint storefront and have moved their flagship location around the corner to 92 Hudson Street. Their Grand Opening was Saturday March 10, 2012. Their website is: www.airstudiosboutique.com. Below are some pictures of the new store. They are still awaiting signage which should come within a couple of weeks. On a special design note not related to clothing the circular couch in the store is simply awesome. What a cool idea. There is also candy on display at marble top counter. TheBoken.com inquired if the Candy was left over from the Candy shop that recently closed and there is no connection. Air studios announced that they plan to re-do the 55 1st Street location on the corner of Bloomfield Street which is their original location.

Fashion: Maxwell’s 9.13.34 Daphine Guiness Inspired Collage

Here is a note from Maxwell’s 9.13.34 owner Deb Maxwell on her Daphne Guinness inspired jewelry collage. Maxwell’s 9.13.34 is a small boutique located between 5th and 6th Streets and Court Street and is open Saturday and Sunday’s from 12pm-7pm….

Dear Friends,

Some shared inspiration from living style icon, Daphne Guinness. So many of the great ladies are past tense. She’s under 50, a self-stylist who opts for supporting designers by purchasing her wardrobe & accessories rather than the borrow it/hand-out seeking publicity variety, & on her style says, “I’m not a conformist. I don’t think I belong to any category”. How refreshing to see a modern day icon not enslaved to a homogenous uniform. She’s a true one-off.

As for one-off’s, here are some treasures inside the red doors at Maxwell’s 9.13.34….

Daphne Guinness quotes: “The thing about Jewelry is, it doesn’t have to be real!”

On wearing jewelry every day she says: ” I hate to keep things in the bank. When are you going to wear jewelry if not now? When you’re dead? Best is for every day!”

On fashion:Fashion today is becoming more beige. Everything and everything is starting to look the same – almost like a Mao uniform. We should be flying the flag for individuality!”
