Hoboken Uptown Farmers’ Market to start Thursday June 6th from 2-7 pm

Fresh produce is back again in Uptown Hoboken on Thursdays with extended hours based on feedback from customers last year…

Hoboken Uptown Farmers’ Market

to start Thursday June 6th from 2-7 pm

Hoboken Uptown Farmer's MarketThe Hoboken Uptown Farmers’ Market, in conjunction with The Quality of Life Coalition, will be arriving soon, with proof in the form of strawberries, sweet corn, and those famous Jersey tomatoes.  Beginning June 6, and running through October, the market will be open Thursdays from 2 pm to 7 pm.  (The market will be closed on July 4 for the holiday.). The new, earlier opening time is in response to customer demand.  You wanted your veggies sooner, and the market is happy to deliver!  The convenient time and location at the corner of 13th and Hudson Streets ensures that residents of uptown Hoboken and beyond will have an opportunity to load up on some freshly picked salad greens for Thursday night’s dinner or a scrumptious blueberry pie for the weekend barbecue.

The Hoboken Uptown Farmers’ Market is excited to announce a few new vendors in the mix this season.  Alan’s Flower Farm, of Chesterfield, NJ will be joining the market each week with fresh cut flowers and produce from his farm.  Additionally, market-goers can look forward to live demonstrations and veggie education from Hoboken’s own Skinny Chef, Jennifer Iserloh, on the third Thursday of each month.  On the final Thursday of each month, Hobokenites can bring their dull kitchen knifes to the market, where Neil’s Sharpening Service will revive the blades to full tomato slicing capacity.

These new faces join returning vendors Stony Hill Farms of Chester, Gina’s Bakery of  Montclair, Hoboken Farms, and customer favorite, Dr. Pickle, who will happily give customers a sample of any of his briny, delicious olives, roasted peppers and pickles, of course!  As a certified ‘Jersey Fresh’ market, the customer can be assured that the fresh produce is grown right here in New Jersey.

As in years past, the market is committed to helping our neighbors in Hoboken who have limited access to fresh fruits and vegetables.  At the end of each day, vendors are encouraged to donate leftover produce to the Hoboken Shelter, which is celebrating its thirtieth year of service to our community.  Additionally, eligible customers are welcome to use WIC (Women, Infants & Children Program) coupons with participating vendors.

Look for the Hoboken Uptown Farmers’ Market on Facebook and Twitter, where we’ll keep you updated on the deal of the day and what’s in season.

Remember – shopping at a Farmers’ Market is great for the local economy, your health and your carbon footprint.  Now, more than ever, it is important to support the New Jersey economy.  Shop Jersey Fresh!

Hoboken Family Farmer’s Market on Saturdays’ Draws Good Crowds

Hoboken Family Farmer's Market Garden Street Mews Saturdays

The Hoboken Family Farmer’s Market www.hobokenfamilymarket.com opened on Saturday June 2nd and runs every Saturday from 9am to 2pm until October. Located at the Garden Street Mews North of the intersection of 14th Street and Garden Street, this Farmer’s market has a little of something for everyone.  With only one farmer, Stony Brook Farms, perhaps as some have suggested they could have more farmers. It has been brought to the attention of TheBoken.com that the lines for first few weeks were long for the produce. Looking at it one way, that is a good problem to have if you are running the market in the short run. It means that there is more demand than initially conceived.

TheBoken.com went to the market in its third week running and noticed the following vendors: food from Anthony Davids, dog treats, soaps from Bodhi Bar,  fresh flowers, pickles from Picklelicious, Choc o Pain Bakery, frozen prepared foods, and balloons for the kids, just to name some merchants. On hand was an activity area for kids as well as a clown and live music.  One Hoboken bricks and mortar merchant I spoke to thinks that the market should even aspire to get bigger under the if you “build it they will come”  theory of City farmer’s markets. Share your feedback or thoughts on potential expansion of the market in the comments below

Whether you think the size of this market is just right or you think it should expand the initial start is proof that the demand for this type of commerce is there in Hoboken. With a baby boom in Hoboken underway for quite a few years now, the concept of a family marker seems to be a good fit. Scroll below for some photos of the market……
