The NFL.com website has a video of Eli Manning and Mayor Dawn Zimmer that was shot this Friday November 9th that shows Eli Manning and the Mayor walking around Hoboken to get an idea of how much damage there was as well as cheer up for NY Giants fans a bit. The link to the video is below
Hoboken resident and two time Superbowl Champion QB for the NY Giants Eli Manning will appear on this week’s Saturday Night Live on Saturday May 5th at 11pm on NBC. Here is a short promo video for this weekend. Musical guest will be Rihanna.
According to
the NY Post Eli Manning will hosting an upcoming show on Saturday Night Live May 5th. The special musical guest will be Rhianna. His brother Peyton Manning had previously been on the show in 2007 and had a couple of funny skits.
Winning a Superbowl is usually a good way for an NFL QB to get on the show. Here is another case of Eli following in big brother’s foot steps. The Boken is curious to see what skits are written for Eli. His brother Peyton is a natural in front of the camera and has all those commercials as well. But in the most important stat Eli has his brother beat with two Superbowl rings to one.

Last night the New York Giants led by hometown hero Eli Manning bested the New England Patriots in a close game by the score of 21-17. Once again Eli Manning drove down the field in the 4th quarter to lead the Giants to the game winning drive in an eerily similar fashion to Super Bowl XLII just 4 years ago when they last won the big game. Hoboken’s bars, especially the downtown ones were jammed for the big game. Washington Street was a sign of jubilation and some of the bars such as 1Republik and Black Bear still has lines outside even after the game had ended.
Once again congratulations to the New York Giants and their improbable run to another NFL Championship. Do you think this second Super Bowl win makes Eli Manning a Hall of Fame quarterback? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
Below is some video footage TheBoken.com took last of the spontaneous celebration in Hoboken on Washington Street. Football fans were pumped. Hopefully not too many people were counting on an early night’s rest last night. Anyone living on Washington Street or 1st Street probably heard pretty well the joyful commotion.
Tomorrow, Hoboken’s bars and living rooms undoubtedly will be packed for the big game. For the first time in 4 years the NY Giants will be back to the Super Bowl against the same team they played the last time they were there, the New England Patriots. This year, TheBoken.com has been 7-3 in its NFL playoff picks for games played to date. This pick however is the most important one and while NFL games are hard to predict I wanted to give it my best shot. I will try to remove the bias from the fact that I am rooting for the NY Giants. Emotion has a tendency to cloud judgment.
So with that said I reached out to a buddy Dave who is a huge Dallas Cowboys fan and he said “ I would bet a month’s salary on it that the Giants are going to win”. I asked him why and he said the Patriots defense is horrible and that the Giants defense should give Patriot’s QB Tom Brady a ton of pressure that will make it difficult for them to be consistent offensively. I then added that we have a pretty darn good QB in hometown hero Eli Manning and he agreed that Eli should be able to pick apart the Patriots secondary.
I had initially thought the Patriots should get the slight edge due to Tom Brady’s competitive fire. However one of his main weapons is questionable with the painful high ankle sprain in Rob Gronkowski their TE. I now think the pendulum swings back to the NY Giants even though odds makers have the Patriots as 3 point favorite. Given the Giants surging defense and the questionable nature of Tom Brady’s main weapon I have the Giants winning in a close one by a field goal.

Last week TheBoken.com was a meager 1-3 with their Divisional round picks bringing our overall 2011 playoff picks record to a not too shabby 5-3. The Patriots beating the Broncos was the only game that TheBoken.com got right last week and frankly that was the easiest to prognosticate. If anyone had said that the New Orleans Saints would have scored over 30 points in playoff game against San Francisco and lost I would have said no way. But that is exactly what did happen in the most frenetic last four minutes of a playoff game in recent memory with San Fran prevailing 36-32 with the go ahead TD with only 9 seconds to go. Amazing! The Giants surprised me as well with the ease that the dispatched the Green Bay Packers 37-20. The big pass plays and the defensive pass pressure turned out to be the difference in that game. This week will not be as easy for the Giants.
Tom Brady of the New England Patriots played like an angry QB possessed and with something to prove throwing for 6 touchdowns against a good defense in the Denver Broncos. The Baltimore Ravens barely got by in their game with the Texans. I think the Ravens might be able to run the ball and that may limit the number of plays that Brady gets but in the end I don’t think the Ravens have the overall team speed to completely stop the Patriots from having success on offense.

This week TheBoken.com has the NY Giants beating San Francisco 24-19. The Giants D comes through by bending but not breaking with a few good stops in the red zone that keep 49ers stud kicker David Akers busy with filed goals instead of extra points. Eli Manning proves he is a real “mudder” throwing well despite the rainy and sloppy conditions at Candlestick Park.

Last week, TheBoken was 4-0 with their NFL predictions in the Wild Card Round last week. This week poses some harder to predict games due to the closeness of the matchups…
David Akers (SF) set a record for field goals made during the regular season. That is bad news for San Francisco in the playoffs if that trend continues. The 49ers have a solid defense but Drew Brees is the hottest Quarterback in the league right now and has so many weapons to choose from. Granted the sloppy turf at San Francisco might slow the Saints down a bit but at the end of the day touchdowns are worth 7 points and field goals 3. Even if David Akers has 7 filed goals, 21 points is not enough to beat the Saints.
TheBoken.com Prediction: New Orleans starts a bit slow but the Saints prevail 31-19.
The Tim Tebow phenomenon can perhaps best be summarized in this numerology from ESPN’s Adam Schefter…
On Jan. 8, 2009, in the BCS Championship Game, then-Florida quarterback Tim Tebow wore eye black with the inscription John 3:16, a reference to the Bible passage that says, "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." that he caused millions of football fans to Google the meaning of John 3:16, Tebow played his first NFL playoff game, against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
As great as Tim Tebow’s magical run has been the Patriots offense will just be too much for Denver. I don’t trust the Patriots defense but Tom Brady’s command of the offense will be too much. No one has been able to cover New England’s two premier TE’s all season. The matchups are too much for Denver to overcome.
TheBoken.com Prediction: Brady throws for 350 yards and 3 TDs. Tebow makes some big plays as well with two rush TDs but Patriots win in the end 38-27. The Broncos will likely beat the spread in my opinion.
Houston and Baltimore are two teams that are almost mirror images of each other. They both have solid defenses and a power running game. The edge in theory should go to Baltimore as they have the more seasoned QB in Joe Flacco and the home field advantage. I think Arian Foster will have a monster game picking up a lot of his yards receiving. Baltimore should win this game but something in my gut says TJ Yates Houston’s QB will make enough plays to eke out a victory.
TheBoken.com Prediction: Houston wins 24-21 in a scrappy rock em’ sock em’ running game with a few big passing plays.
I want the NY Giants to win. I really do. I think they can and this game could go either way. Their running game seems to be coming back as well as their pass rush at exactly the right time. They played the Packers close last time and really could have won that game. I think the Packers could start the game a bit rusty but they will have Greg Jennings back and I think Aaron Rodgers will make one more touchdown pass the Eli Manning to seal the victory. Here is hoping I am wrong.

Today’s photo of the day is that of Eli Manning and Victor Cruz working out at Hoboken High School during the NFL lockout on May3rd 2011. Eli and Victor have gone on to become a dynamic QB and WR combo seemingly on the same page just about any time a big play is needed. It is one of the main reasons the Giants are in the playoffs to begin with. Go up to any die hard Dallas Cowboy fan and just say 3rd and 7. The first thing to come to mind will be their arch nemesis Victor Cruz aka “The Cowboy Killer”. Just think that a little hard work in Hoboken was the beginning of a special WR emerging as Eli Manning’s favorite target.
