Here are some tasteful tailgating tips for Hoboken Football fans from Chef Anthony Pino of AD Catering | Events, Anthony Davids, Bin 14, and the Kolo Klub…..
Tailgaters have always taken their pre-game drinking seriously, but are now equally serious about their pre-game eats. “You don’t just see the standard burgers and hot dogs at sporting events anymore,” stated Chef Anthony Pino of AD Catering|Events. “As you stroll through the crowds gathered at sporting events these days you will find a wide range of tailgating fare, from specialty cheeses to elaborate lobster and steak dinners.” Chef Pino knows a thing or two about pre-game entertaining; his company AD Catering|Events provides gourmet prepared food for those headed to the local Giants and Jets games at MetLife Stadium, or to those cheering on their teams with friends at home.
A tip Chef Pino offers to those planning to entertain: nothing makes a party better for host and guest alike, than to offer guests delicious items that require minimal hands-on assistance. He also gives a word of advice when prepping for pre-game entertaining. “Know your limits. If you want to have fun and enjoy your guests’ company, plan your menu using food items that can be prepared ahead of time, so all you will need to do is warm and display.”

In addition, he and his team based in Hoboken, regularly put together a wide range of options for the local crowd who are off to outdoor events such as The Hunt in Far Hills, NJ, or are simply inspired to enjoy the fall weather and scenery with private picnics and wine tastings. Chef Pino continued, “Customers are ordering take-away platters ranging from the high end – lamb chops, filet, seafood, to the basic – sausage and peppers, sandwiches and cheese, as they head off to their fall festivities.” He smiles as he says, “What goes together better than fresh autumn air and foliage paired with good food and wine?”

Zylo Tuscan Steakhouse, located at the W Hotel at 225 River Street in Hoboken is offering space for catering private events. It makes sense since those waterfront views of New York City from Hoboken are quite compelling and they have a professional culinary staff on hand as well.

Last night the founding partners of the Kolo Klub, Hoboken’s latest catering hall, had an invite only Grand Opening party for friends and the members of the press. Attendees from the press and local media included Hoboken Patch, Hoboken Girl, Eat Drink New Jersey, and TheBoken.comwith no presence from the self-proclaimed “most complete website about Hoboken”. Perhaps the cyber recluse webmaster wasn’t invited. I know for sure he wasn’t missed.
Complimentary drink and appetizers were provided and members of the new Kolo Klub organization git up and said a few words about the venture including Chef Anthony Pino pictured above. The event went from 6-12pm and those in attendance had a nice time. There was a magician who did some very neat tricks including bending a quarter just by concentrating. He had a variety of impressive tricks so don’t be surprised to see a magic show at this venue at some point.
A very capable and talented jazz band also provided some swank background ambiance. From this editor’s eye the place looks great and has an older European era feel about it. I place the mood of the decor in the 1930′s.
The Kolo Klub is located on the 2nd floor at 1422 Grand Street which is one floor above Hoboken’s popular beer garden Pilsenser Haus and Biergarten. Below are some photos from last night’s grand opening and more information about the new catering hall.

Period lighting and architectural details like portable subdividing screens have been incorporated into a subtle and flexible design by Jirka Kolar Interiors, the same team that brought period authenticity to life at Pilsener Haus. The Kolar and Pilsener Haus team jointly created Kolo Klub’s namesake logo; the kolo their native Czech word for bicycle and its whimsical rider evoke a playful sense of fun and creativity that will inspire events held in the space. There will also be a plush 30 seat private screening room available for guests.
Andy Ivanov, a founder of Brooklyn’s Radegast Hall, and part of the team that created Pilsener Haus and conceived Kolo Klub, states,“We couldn’t think of a better partner to create events in this space. The acclaim Chef Pino and his AD team have received, not to mention the reputation that their Hoboken restaurants enjoy, will make Kolo Klub a culinary and celebratory destination.”“Now we have a home,” says Chef Pino.“We intend to make Kolo Klub a place for unforgettable gatherings. TheBoken.com got a sneak preview of an exciting business opening up above the Pilsenser Haus in Hoboken soon called the Kolo Klub last week . It is a banquet and performance hall by the same owners of the well received and run Pilsener Haus. The decor is reminiscent of a time at least 100 years ago. The space is divided into tow areas a main hall which seats close to 200 patrons and a smaller party room that seats 25-30.
The place is still not completed but is anticipated to open soon. Chef Anthony Pino will be responsible for catering the food and private events like weddings corporate parties are expected in addition to musical acts as well as acts as diverse as a possible magic show. The owners of the Pilsener Haus are batting 1.000 so far with pre-opening buzz. If the success of the Pilsener Haus to date is any indication I think we have another home run on our hands in Hoboken. The details of this new hall are really well conceived and executed and a rent-able space for special events is something that Hoboken can use more of.
Finally, what Hoboken has needed for some time, a banquet hall in an artful setting with a chef with a reputation for delivering an outstanding dinning experience.
The Kolo Klub will be in an artisan-built space a floor above the Pilsener Haus, in uptown Hoboken. It is the new home of acclaimed Chef Anthony Pino and his AD Catering Events team, in partnership with the founders of Pilsener Haus & Biergarten. Chef Pino’s superlative cuisine, currently enjoyed by guests of his Bin 14 and Dining Room at Anthony David’s restaurants, is now available for private catered events of 25 to 199 guests at the Kolo Klub. Weddings, intimate gatherings and large galas are planned and executed with operational brilliance in this artfully renovated 4,000 square-foot loft. Good chance this becomes one of the popular places to hold a wedding or plan a special party in Hoboken.
There is a new catering company that recently opened up in Hoboken and is run by two Hoboken resdidents: James Cullen and Rylan Domingue..
“Le Cochon Bourré (The Stuffed Pig) is a catering company specializing in Louisiana Cuisine, and more broadly, Southern cuisine and BBQ. Chef James Cullen studied at Manhattan’s French Culinary Institute, and has worked at some of Manhattan and Hoboken’s top restaurants, including Pearl Oyster Bar and Amanda’s respectively. The cuisine is both bold and refined, and true to the culture that inspired it. Rylan Domingue has years of experience in both the restaurant industry and events planning, working in Louisiana, Texas, New Jersey and New York. Her sense of taste and understanding of events is the perfect complement to Chef James’ food.”
TheBoken knows both business partners and can vouch for their passion for food and New Orleans. It makes sense that these two would launch a joint venture together to channel that pasison into what is hopefully a successful business.
