Today’s Hoboken Photo of the Day presents a tropical theme in Hoboken near Black Bear Bar on Washington Street. The new plantings suggest Miami and not Hoboken. There is an additional planting near Bahama Mama’s as well up the street. In lieu of a tree planting, this is a nice alternative. Perhaps the owner is anticipating global warming to hit us sooner than current models predict.

There are other establishments in Hoboken that will be celebrating Cinco De Mayo as well and they include Texas Arizona, Oddfellows, Hotel Victor Bar and Grill among just a few of the downtown establishments.
Last night the New York Giants led by hometown hero Eli Manning bested the New England Patriots in a close game by the score of 21-17. Once again Eli Manning drove down the field in the 4th quarter to lead the Giants to the game winning drive in an eerily similar fashion to Super Bowl XLII just 4 years ago when they last won the big game. Hoboken’s bars, especially the downtown ones were jammed for the big game. Washington Street was a sign of jubilation and some of the bars such as 1Republik and Black Bear still has lines outside even after the game had ended.

Hopefully not too many people were counting on an early night’s rest last night. Anyone living on Washington Street or 1st Street probably heard pretty well the joyful commotion.

Well one thing we German beer lovers can be unified on is an Oktoberfest where you don’t have to hop on a plane to Germany to get a taste of the golden good life. You can enjoy a number of Oktoberfests in Hoboken starting with this one from Black Bear Bar and Grill.
Black Bear Bar and Grill will be hosting their 2nd Annual Oktoberfest on Thursday September 22nd starting at 7pm. There will be a $10 door charge and a German Buffet to coat the stomach for some great German beers such as Hacker-Pshorr to wash it down.
