Hoboken St. Patty’s Day Bar Crawl Information

Here is a note from the organizers of Hoboken St. Patrick’s Day Pub Crawl edited slightly for better copy on this website. I publishing this here as information that visitors of Hoboken and participating residents could actually use but keep this is not necessarily an endorsment of the downside effects of binge drinking on the first Saurday of March every year with or without the parade.  Several years ago the parade was put on hold after the Mayor wanted it moved to a weekday since that  cancellation of the St. Patrick’s Day parade the number of incidents has gone down and the party has been more localised downtown.  TheBoken.com is all about celebration and certainly does not Hoboken to become a dry town but would just encourage revelers to have fun and be responsible and respectful to our city and have fun. If you or a frend get too drunk cut yourself off or them and get home or to the apartment you are visiting. Try to avoid an emergency room visit at all costs. Now on to the annual St. Patty’s Day Pub Crawl message…..

“Keep the tradition going strong! That’s exactly what we’re here to do. The phenomenon that takes hold of Hoboken every single March is quickly approaching. Not only is the weather going to get a little warmer, it is the perfect way to get the party started for St Patrick’s Day – a real pre – St. Paddy’s day event! DJ-Kurt-with-phrase

Hudson Tavern, located at the corner of 14th and Hudson in Hoboken will be hosting special “Guest” DJ – DJ Kurt This Friday and Saturday and next weekend as well – November 15,16, 22 and 23. As editor of TheBoken.com I will shed my behind the scenes persona and lead the music at the Hudson Tavern while the bartenders focus on making the drinks. As a DJ in his 40s I have an both a popular and eclectic range of musical possibilities from rock, pop, good hip hop (the danceable kind), dance classics, new dance, and even some country thrown in to keep you guessing. I try to read the crowd and switch things up quite frequently to keep em’ guessing.

Spread the word and let the party begin. I will start approximately at 10:30-11pm all nights and play till close. I have had positive feedback with my guest gigs and enjoy doing this as yet another one of my hobbies. The nice thing about the Hudson Tavern is the wide range of ages that frequent the bar. It makes for a challenge to keep most people interested in the music. Leave your requests in the comments and I will do my best to accommodate.

For my gigs I plug into the house sound system from the corner part of the bar on 14th street with my iPad and the app DJay 2 shown below…..

Washington Street Shuffle – Maxwell’s in Hoboken to Re-open?

Maxwells to Reopen in Hoboken - Buzz on the Street

Photo by Jean-Paul Picard Hoboken Photograher and Instructor

Maxwell’s, the recently closed music night spot that had served Hoboken for a 35 year stretch seems to have come back from the grave at least potentially. There were signs put up at MAxwell’s over the Labor Day Weekend that have state the bar/restaurant/music venue is looking for experienced servers and bartenders.  People interested can apply in person or email resumes to MaxwellsHoboken@gmail.com.

For those at a loss since the institution located at the corner of 11th and Washington Streets closed, there is indeed hope it will re-open. Perhaps they just needed to get rid of one of their partners Todd Abramson who was quoted on NJ.com stating:

“The culture in Hoboken is driven by TV now. A lot of the bars downtown are fighting with each other for who has the most giant TVs. That’s what Hoboken nightlife has become.”

Well that is the opinion of one of the former partners but it looks look whoever is remaining is looking at another go.  For those music fans who loved Maxwell’s I offer these parting words….  in the immortal expressions of Jessie Jackson: “Keep Hope Alive!”

A League of Their Own Trivia at The Shannon in Hoboken Wednesday August 28 at 8pm

A League of their Own Trivia The Shannon Hoboken 8-28-2013

“There’s no crying in baseball” – At least according to the character Jimmy Dugan in the movie “A League of their Own”  or your typical NY Mets fan. To understand the culture shock to some of woman playing professional baseball during World War II when MLB  suspended their league for several years while young men went off to war here is a quote that pretty much sums up the cultural attitudes of many during that time…..

“Careers and higher education are leading to the masculinization of women, with enormously dangerous consequences to the home, the children, and our country. When our boys come home from war, what kind of girls will they be coming home to? And now the most disgusting example of this sexual confusion: Mr. Walter Harvey of Harvey bars is presenting us with women’s baseball. Right here in Chicago, young girls plucked from their families are gathered at Harvey Field, to see which one of them can be the most masculine. Mr. Harvey, like your candy bars, you’re completely… nuts.”

Well, if you and your friends have seen this movie about women’s baseball and think you know your stuff Trivia AD is hosting another one of their trivia night’s tomorrow night at The Shannon Wednesday August 28th at 8pm. The Shannon is located at 106 1st Street in Hoboken. Reservations can be made by emailing theshannonhoboken@gmail.com.
