Surf City Megabar and Restaurant in Jersey City – Like a Mini Vacation from Hoboken

Surf City Jersey City

Last Saturday, TheBoken.com paid an afternoon visit to Jersey City’s latest “mega bar” Surf City. Located at 1 Marin Blvd. in Jersey City next to a marina, Surf City is accessible to the NJ Light Rail system from Hoboken at the Marin Blvd Light Rail stop. TheBoken.com enjoyed the time there and recommends the place for its relaxed ambience, gorgeous views and delicious lobster rolls. The Frozen drinks are pretty good too.

This place has only been open for 3 weeks and is under the same ownership as Zeppelin Hall, the big beer garden in Jersey City that is actually withing walking distance from this place. Surf City bartender and Social Media coordinator Meghan said that there are plans to have musical acts there soon and according their Facebook page a raw bar will be coming soon as well.

The crowd was mixed but older than say Pier 13 during the day but I was informed that it does get younger at night. The music, unlike its predecessor the Sand Bar, is more Jimmy Buffet than club and the views of the Harbor and dowtown NYC make it a very cool place to chill and meet up with friends. Thus, if you want a beachy feeling from Hoboken’s offerings Surf City could be the ticket. Below are some photos of the place that give you an idea of its offerings….

  1. I went there a few days ago. This is certainly a unique spot in the northern NJ area. It's similar to the Pier 66 bar where the Frying Pan is in NYC but with more of a laid-back vibe. Think of the Patio Bar at The Wharfside in Point Pleasant Beach with a Manhattan skyline view. Customers can arrive on foot, by car, light rail, or dock their boat. The beer selection is good and the food wasn't too pricy and was pretty decent. Fried shrimp and fries set us back only $8.95 and beers were $6. Surf City has a quiet vibe so you can hangout with friends and have a conversation.

Once they've worked out their grand opening kinks I'll have to check them out again.
