Photos of Mayor Dawn Zimmer and the National Guard

IMG_1207

Hoboken resident and photographer Jean Paul Picard sent these photos in of Mayor Dawn Zimmer with the National Guard this Sunday in the aftermath of Hurricane Irene. One of the positives that came out of this storm was that organizations who might not normally work together (i.e. The National Guard and Hoboken) banded together to try to meet the basic needs of its citizens. The Mayor was a part of that and slept on a cot in City Hall on Saturday night. She seems a bit more relieved and relaxed in these photos then she was before the storm as the damage from Irene was less than forecasted. There were however residents in low lying areas in Hoboken who did sustain substantial flood damage but no serious injuries were reported. This storm could have been a lot worse but thankfully dissipated sooner than forecasts projected.

Jean Paul Picard will be offering semi-private photography courses this fall. Call 201-264-1037 for more information if you are interested. Here are two links to view his work:  http://www.picardvision.com/ and http://www.jean-paulpicard.com/. He specializes in portrait photography.

  1. Did Jean Paul Picard happen to be on hand to take these photos, or was he hired by the mayor?

  2. He just happened to be in the area. I ran into him on 11th Street and Washington Street and he said he had taken some pictures up by the Firehouse. I asked him if he would submitt to TheBoken and he agreed. I gave him a link out of courtesy.

  3. We totally happened to be there. My husband Jean-Paul and were walking around town to see how things were and how easy it would be to bring ourselves and the cats back home. We just happened to be passing the firehouse when we saw the National Guard truck.

  4. I asked, because the composition of the shots seems so good that they almost looked like they could have been staged.

    In that case, nice work!

  6. Neither one of the links to his sites seem to work for me. Anyone else? Good captures of the moments. Storytelling with people is definitely an art.
