NYC Subway 7 Line extending to Hoboken?

Seven Train NYC to Hoboken

The New York City newspaper and website Metro is reporting the possibility of extending the 7 train to Hoboken.

They report that Mayor “Bloomberg’s office has already spent $250,000 to analyze the feasibility of extending the 7 to Secaucus. Bloomberg is reportedly pleased with the findings and, according to reports, will make an announcement on the plan within the coming months.”

The story adds opinion from Bob Previdi, a former New York City Transit spokesman and planner. He is reported as thinking extending it to Hoboken makes much more sense than Secaucus. “Hoboken’s bustling station, which already houses PATH trains and the light rail, is the perfect place for the 7“

“It would make it the third major train station in New York City,” he said.

”Hoboken has more tracks, more room in the station for passengers and is half the distance from Midtown than Secaucus — meaning half the cost, Previdi estimates.”

  1. If there were a Hoboken 7 train station, it would make more sense uptown where there are less mass-transit options. If it was close enough to the 9th Street Light Rail, or near the Hoboken/Weehawken Border, a new 16th Street Light Rail Station could be built, connecting the 7 to the rest of Hudson County.

  2. Downtown it's better, everything is there and it will connect the rest of Hudson county as well, plus it will be lest money.
