Hoboken 2012 Sinatra Idol Recap–Third Time is a charm for Winner James Anthony

Last night at Frank Sinatra Park in Hoboken, the 6th Annual Sinatra Idol was held with 15 contestants crooning to be this year’s Sinatra Idol. Third time contestant James Anthony traversing from Bristow Virginia won this year placing first with his rendition of "Blues in the Night". He was the only contestant to get a perfect score from all five judges of 25. His story behind his Frank Sinatra singing is very compelling. James  was struck by lightning in 2005 in Florida and used his singing to rehabilitate himself physically and mentally. At one point his left side was paralyzed from the lightning strike and he was able to recover. Nothing like the power of music.

For the singing contest contestants were rated on a score from 1-5 for their performances. Hoboken judge Dale Monaco who is the only living relative of Frank Sinatra in Hoboken was the toughest grader of the bunch at one point being referred to as the Simon Cowell of Hoboken Sinatra Idol judges. After the contest Dale confirmed her high standards to TheBoken.com by reminding this editor of who the singers were trying emulate, Frank Sinatra. Of course with Frank, he set a very high bar.

This year there were no tie-breakers so after the contestants finished and prizes were awarded the show went straight to all contestants joined in for a finale of “New York New York”. Port Washington, NY native Larry Dubin was named the second-place winner and Danny Satin, a Staten Island resident was named third-place winner. In addition to the prizes James Anthony received, he will get the chance to perform in the Sinatra Birthday Bash, which will be held December 7 at the Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank, N.J. Last year’s Sinatra Idol winner Greg Myers said it was an incredible experience to perform at the Count Basie Theater last year . James Anthony will have something to look forward to this fall. Perhaps lightning will strike twice.

Below are some photos and a video of the winning performance…

Wow!!! I have never heard of this singer but he is amazing! My husband and I love Frank Sinatra's voice and we consistantly go to see Frank Sinatra singers with dissapointment but, I have to say that this man is the real deal. _ _His voice and moves gave me the wonderful chills and my husband said he was the best he'd ever seen after Frank. We are going to follow his progress and hope he comes to our area in Chicago.
