FBW Parks in Peril Fundraiser Tuesday December 11th, 2012 at 7pm

The Fund for a Better Waterfront, a Hoboken advocacy group for Parks has announced the new date for their Hoboken’s Waterfront Parks in Peril fundraiser. The revised date is Tuesday December 11 and the event starts at 7pm. Here is their brief note below:
“Please join the Fund for a Better Waterfront and the Eastern Environmental Law Center (EELC) on Tuesday, December 11, 2012, 7 PM for our Hoboken’s Waterfront Parks in Perilfundraising event at the Elks Club. FBW with legal representation from EELC has been working overtime to avert a series of proposals that would be disastrous for Hoboken and its waterfront:

  • Shipyard Associates have proposed the Monarch project, two high-rise towers on a pier where they had agreed to create open space. Read more.
  • The owners of Union Dry Dock are selling this prime waterfront site. An attempt by NJ Transit to purchase for shuttle bus parking and ferry repair/refueling has just been thwarted. Read more.
  • The State Assembly is now considering a bill that would exempt Stevens Institute from all local zoning and planning regulations. Read more.
  • And NJ Transit has proposed a series of high-rise towers on several superblocks at the south end of town. Read more.

We can remedy these ill-conceived proposals but need your support to do so. We have invited several speakers and there will, of course, be food, drink and entertainment. This will be a fun-filled event for a serious cause.

This benefit is to support the work of the Fund for a Better Waterfront (FBW) and the Eastern  Environmental Law Center (EELC), originally scheduled for November 13, is now on for Tuesday, December 11. Buy your tickets today.  Members should be receiving our letter/invitation in the mail. Don’t be confused by the old date (new date on outside label) — Hurricane Sandy arrived as the mailing was set to go out. In addition to working on remedies for the next disaster in Hoboken, FBW with legal assistance from EELC has been working overtime to avert a series of disastrous proposals that will impact Hoboken and its waterfront. The event will be held at the Elks Club, 1005 Washington Street, Hoboken beginning at 7 p.m. “
