On February 28, 2013, an exhibition, Brushstrokes & Grain, will open at the hob’art gallery, Monroe Art Center, 720 Monroe Street, #E208, Hoboken, NJ. Two members of the gallery, Joe Gilmore and Tom Egan, will present artwork in the mediums of painting and photography. The exhibit will be open to the public from February 28 to March 24, 2013, and a reception for the show to meet the artists, will be held on, Saturday, March 2, 6 – 8pm. Gallery hours are Thursday thru Sunday, 1 – 5pm and by appointment. The artists thank the Monroe Art Center and the hob’art gallery for their support of this exhibition.

The Brushstrokes and Grain show emphasizes the contrasting styles and mediums, by the two exhibition artists. Joe Gilmore’s paintings are a lighthearted look at physical and spiritual intimacy within the home, inspired by the eight days he spent without power in the aftermath of Super Storm Sandy. During that time, the artist reflected on two very important lessons: the importance of nesting and what people do during a blackout. Tom Egan’s photography is part of his long term project to document New York City’s underground club scene, especially the Burning Man subculture. Regular parties that spring up throughout Manhattan and it’s boroughs are showplaces for outrageous clothes, exciting performances and flamboyant personalities. The exhibited images represent a series of moments captured in 2012.
