Slider Shack will be opening in Hoboken in the Summer or Fall of 2013. The Location is at 138 Park Avenue and 2nd Street in Hoboken, NJ which is the site of former Marie’s Bakery. They will serve breakfast lunch and dinner and will serve sliders and sides.

Alongside the regular Sunday brunch menu, Executive Chef Eric Basulto is adding some special touches to the menu, including a roast leg of lamb on a carving station, eggs florentine, quiche, and a variety of salads and baked items. The Red Lion, located at 1320 Bloomfield street is one of the newer coffee shops in Hoboken. Located at the intersection of 14th and Bloomfield street is one of two uptown coffee shops in Hoboken with Genache being the other. TheBoken.com sat down with one of the partners Matthew Wade to get his take on the fledgling new coffee business in Hoboken.
Matthew mentioned that he started this business with a good friend of his for over 30 years. The finalization of the concept of The Red Lion had been brewing for many years. Last year they just got to the permit stage for construction a week or so before Hurricane Sandy hit. That obviously caused delays in the opening. Despite that setback and the fact Hoboken has its share of coffee shops Matthew thinks coffee is heading in the direction of wine where superior quality can differentiate product and as a result margin to make a small business like his profitable.
At the heart of the business is coffee and the coffee maker espresso machine by La Marzocco (http://www.lamarzocco.com) . Those espresso machines and are hand made in Florence Italy and produce a superior cup of espresso, cappuccino or coffee. The coffee itself comes from Kobricks and is roasted fresh daily. The milk comes from a local source Hudson Valley fresh milk and the baked goods come from renowned NYC bakery and cafe Balthazar. There is no indoor seating but the walls are decorated with reclaimed wood from a barn that produces a stylish look and is good for the environment.
In additional to being profitable and successful owner Matthew wants to give back to the community as well. In a recent planned fundraiser, 10 cents will go to Hurricane Sandy relief. He also plans a mobile application that can let consumers choose where charitable proceeds can go from a list of reliable charitable organizations. He also mentioned that he pays his staff 20% more than other competitors which aids in retention as well as consistency and quality of the product. Matthew utilizes The Hoboken Business Center, an office space for small businesses in Southwest Hoboken for his office days.
On the weekends, business is brisk in the uptown coffee shop and as result they opened up earlier on weekends starting at 7:30am. So there you have it, another bold business opening in Hoboken and providing premium coffee and community support as part of their mission statement.
Here is hoping that the weekday business picks up as well and that they are around for many years to contribute to the Hoboken community by keeping it caffeinated and refreshed mornings and afternoons.

Trinity Bar located at 306 Sinatra Drive in Hoboken is hosting a Fiesta happy hour on Tuesday May 14th. The price of admission to the happy is $10 and proceeds from that benefit the Hoboken Shelter. There will be complimentary food as well as drink and appetizer specials.
Paper goods, knives, forks, spoons, napkins, sugar, coffee, canned food and other non-perishables will also be collected to benefit the Hoboken Shelter. Look for the collection box up front.
