Hoboken Photo of the Day – Winter 2014 at Pier A Park

This winter has been an especially brutal one in Hoboken and the surrounding NYC metropolitan area. The term “Artic Vortex” really made a splash in 2014 but of course it was too cold for a real splash for that given the average temperatures in January and February. Depite the cold at least some beauty can come out it as depicted in a recent shot I took at Hoboken’s Pier A Park.

Photo of The Day – What New Development Should Look Like in Hoboken

Filed under: Photo Of The Day — Tags: , — TheBoken @ 12:00 PM

I was was recently visiting my parents upstate NY and stayed in Saratoga Springs NY during my visit. The new construction in the downtown area of this thriving city really caught my eye. I know taste is subjective but I really like what the developers did for this mixed use commercial/residential project. The look is both new and refreshing with some hints of history. I think this building blends in well with other historic buildings on Broadway and perhaps Hoboken developers should take some design cues from these developers up north.

Pier 11 Sunset HDR 10-28-2013

One of the great things about Hoboken is the ease of commute to New York City. This time of year is great as I can catch some wonderful sunsets on the way back to Hoboken from the NY Waterway ferry.

Last year, more than 13 months ago the Hoboken Charter School located at 713 Washington Street in Hoboken, NJ sustained a fire that forced it to shutdown for extensive repairs. The repairs were finally completed and the school re-opened yesterday to the jubilation of students, parents and faculty. Below is a photo of the ribbon cutting featuring the Mayor of Hoboken and school officials submitted by a local reader…

Hoboken HDR Photo of the Day – Schnackenberg’s Sign Renovated

Restaurant owner Eugene Flinn has been hard at work getting his third establishment in Hoboken ready for the anticipated throngs of stroller moms and their active kids  with his renovation of Schnackeberg’s at 1110 Washington Street. The venerable luncheonette is getting a makeover from the owner of Amanda’s and the Elysian Café and this sign renovation is just part of the overall process. The sheetrock is now up so its is likely just a few weeks to a month before this reborn place is open to the public. In the meantime this classic Hoboken sign gets preserved for at least another generation.

Maxwell Place from Pier 13 Hoboken 8-24-2013 HDR

Here are two photos of Maxwell Place in Hoboken near sunset yesterday. I used HDR but tried to subdue some of the extreme features of HDR and produce an effect that is painterly but still somewhat photo realistic. Yesterday was a great weather day for walking around and taking pictures.

The filed is open for use according to the City of Hoboken Facebook page and there are just a few finishing touches including the installation of bathrooms and the completion of the observation mound at the northern section of the field. You can see the construction in Weehawken in the background as well as Troy Towers.
