Hoboken Events Committee Plans “The Cauldron” Roman Numeral Sculpture as Superbowl XLVIII Attraction with New York City Views

The Hoboken Events Committee for the next Superbowl that will be hosted at Met Life Stadium in 2014 lead by Hoboken resident Scott Katz held a meeting last night at his home at Bloomfield Street for the members of the committee.

Last night  Bill LaRosa, Head of the Huddle Country Huddle Zone for the NY/NJ Host Committee attended this meeting and addressed Committee, filling everyone in on the Super Bowl initiative from the Official perspective. Mayor Dawn Zimmer and Freeholder Anthony Romano was also in attendance along with about 50 committee members.

Scott Katz explained the role of the commitee in his email to members before the meeting:

“Since our formation, the Hoboken Events Committee has been working a bit more independently of the Official NY/NJ Host Committee than any other city in New Jersey. The reasons for that were pragmatic, but given our results thus far it was seemingly a chance worth taking.  Our group now has serious credibility and there will be strength in numbers, so I need everybody to show up so he can see first-hand what we have worked so hard to create.

And that segues into what, we, the Hoboken Events Committee, will now need to create—“The Cauldron.”

We have been given permission by the NFL for use of the Roman Numerals to create an iconic “XLVIII,” with the NYC skyline serving as the backdrop. This is a game changer. This is our centerpiece. When I said, “If we build it, they will come,” I meant it. So now we can build it.

What we will be building is an attraction, something that people are going to come seek out. Other cities in NJ will have events—some better than others, some just for the sake of doing something. What we are creating is an attraction, something that is going to make Super Bowl visitors feel a NEED to come to Hoboken Of course there is still a lot of work to be done in order tocreate the cauldron, and eventually Super Bowl Square…”

So the question is, if you build it will they come? TheBoken.com thinks yes. It could be a very big draw for sports  fans to visit Hoboken for a most unique photo op with NYC views.  There are some pretty cool events planned as well but this attraction when built could really be a big boost to Hoboken’s businesses if it is well executed.

Elks Club Monday Night Football Viewing and Dinner starts at 7pm – for only $10

The Hoboken Elks Club is hosting a Monday Night Football Viewing and Dinner which starts at 7pm tonight November 19th- for only $10. The Elysian Cafe will be doing the catering and all proceeds will go to charities of the Hoboken Elks. There will be a cash bar. The game pits the Chicago Bears at the San Fransico 49ers.

Super Bowl XLVI–Giants vs. Patriots–TheBoken.com’s Pick and Polls

Tomorrow, Hoboken’s bars and living rooms undoubtedly will be packed for the big game. For the first time in 4 years the NY Giants will be back to the Super Bowl against the same team they played the last time they were there, the New England Patriots. This year, TheBoken.com has been 7-3 in its NFL playoff picks for games played to date. This pick however is the most important one and while NFL games are hard to predict I wanted to give it my best shot. I will try to remove the bias from the fact that I am rooting for the NY Giants. Emotion has a tendency to cloud judgment.

So with that said I reached out to a buddy Dave who is a huge Dallas Cowboys fan and he said “ I would bet a month’s salary on it that the Giants are going to win”. I asked him why and he said the Patriots defense is horrible and that the Giants defense should give Patriot’s QB  Tom Brady a ton of pressure that will make it difficult for them to be consistent offensively. I then added that we have a pretty darn good QB in hometown hero Eli Manning and he agreed that Eli should be able to pick apart the Patriots secondary.

I had initially thought the Patriots should get the slight edge due to Tom Brady’s competitive fire. However one of his main weapons is questionable with the painful high ankle sprain in Rob Gronkowski their TE. I now think the pendulum swings back to the NY Giants even though odds makers have the Patriots as 3 point favorite. Given the Giants surging defense and the questionable nature of Tom Brady’s main weapon I have the Giants winning in a close one by a field goal.
