About The Food Experiments: Nick Suarez and Theo Peck, New York City’s “cook-‐off royalty”, created The Food Experiments in 2009. The Experiments are a series of cooking competitions
that challenge amateur chefs to create around 300 samples of a dish featuring an “experimental” ingredient or
theme.

Over twenty Experiments have taken place involving beer, cheese, chocolate, tacos, brunch, Brooklyn roots, holiday and booze themes. Brooklyn Brewery sponsored their first national tour in 2011 featuring Experiments
in Austin, New Orleans, Boston, Philadelphia and Washington, DC. In 2012 the National Tour expanded to 16 cities, including an international stop in Stockholm, and has only generated even greater success. For further information, visit:  http://thefoodexperiments.com

Save Rent Control Music Jam and Fundraiser Thursday October 25th at Maxwell’s Starting 8pm

There is a party tomorrow night October 25th at Maxwell’s starting at 8pm that has a bunch of bands including The FAVE to support the Hoboken Fair Housing Association’s efforts to save Rent Control. Local Question 2 is on the ballot this and a yes vote would end the current structure of rent control for many apartments in Hoboken as some activists see it and a no vote would keep things the way they are.

Regardless of where you stand on this issue this promises to be a great lineup of local musicians. Just don’t wear a “I’m with the upper 1%” button. You might not be too popular.

Maxwell’s is at 1039 Washington Street in Hoboken (NE corner). For more information on the rent control organization Hoboken Fair Housing Association please go to www.hobokenfairhousing.com. For the opposing position in favor of rent control changes, The Mile Square Taxpayers Association you can go to http://hobokenmsta.com/.

Also, if you are still undecided on the rent control issue Question #2 on the ballot, there is a forum tonight October 24th to hear the issues discussed at OLG School which starts at 7pm tonight and runs for 2 hours . There will be no live music at this event but the two sides of the issue will have a chance to present their case….

Bernie Worrell Orchestra at Maxwell’s in Hoboken Saturday, November 03 2012, 7pm

Attention funk lovers (and that includes TheBoken.com’s editor) , a funkadelic trip to the past with spectacular syncopated scintillation and just a funking flat fabulous fun filled fest of music will be coming soon to Hoboken with the artistic stylings of Bernie Worrell and his Orchestra…..

Bernie Worrell Orchestra (of Original Parliament-Funkadelic / Talking Heads)
comes to Maxwell’s in Hoboken Saturday, November 03 2012, 7:00pm

Bernie Worrell Orchestra (w/Special Guests TBA) – this is an early show!

Rock and Funk legend, Bernie Worell, recently digitally released two songs, “BWO is Landing” and “Get Your Hands Off.” Combing elements of everything from jazz to salsa to funk and soul, these two tracks have something to offer every music lover. Both tracks are beautifully arranged and very danceable, full of energy and are true works of musical genius from a master of many styles. These are the first tracks by Bernie’s current band, Bernie Worrell Orchestra, which he co-produced with Evan Taylor.

How many artists can say they were in on the ground floor of an honest-to-Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame super-group, while inventing a completely original and uncanny sound and, in the ensuing years, built a legendary reputation as one of the most versatile hired guns in the music business? True “funkateers” know the history. From the fat Minimoog bass lines of “Flash Light” and “One Nation Under A Groove” to the percussive piano runs of “Chocolate City” and “Give Up the Funk,” Bernie Worrell is synonymous with the legacy of Parliament-Funkadelic; in fact, he’s one of the originators of the psychedelic funk sound, having written and co-produced the lion’s share of the music going back to Funkadelic’s formative years, with an eclectic ear for everything from Chopin to the Chi-Lites.

These days the terms “living legend” or “funk icon” really don’t come close to doing Worrell justice. “Funk iconoclast” is probably more apt, considering the breadth of his contributions to seminal albums outside the P-Funk canon, including Talking Heads’ Stop Making Sense and Public Image Ltd’s Album, to name two of the more monolithic examples. Keith Richards, Yoko Ono, Bootsy Collins, Jack Bruce, Ginger Baker, Mos Def, Sly & Robbie, Deee-Lite, Bill Laswell and many more have recruited Bernie into the studio and on tour—all for his versatility, vision and feverish creativity whenever he gets his hands on a keyboard.

Below is a sample video of one of his performances….

Maxwell’s 9.13.34 Has Suggestions to Light up Your Life

Deb Maxwell of Maxwell’s 9.13.34 located at 508 Court Street on weekends once again has some style tips that will hopefully not have you hanging from a chandelier with excitement as that would create a huge safety risk. Just kidding but in all seriousness do read on and be illuminated with some style wisdom and tips from Ms. Maxwell even if you don’t plan to make a purchase but TheBoken.com always encourages shopping local whenever possible….

Dear Friends,

[A Great Chandelier] Makes yours not just a house but your home.  Home is, after all, your nest…. your sanctuary.  (Additionally, it enjoys air conditioning!)

Maxwell's 9.13.34 Chandelier Collage 7-6-2012

How does a chandelier impact a persons moods & emotions?

To see a chandelier in a dream represents grandeur and greatness. You see a bright future ahead.  Positivity!   If the chandelier is made of crystal, then it symbolizes wealth. It also produces a shimmering mood on the room. It highlights your decor and elevates the home ambient to a heightened level.  It ices a modern, traditional or eclectic home with an atmospheric shimmer that conveys elegance & sophistication to both you and your guests.

From photo above:

Top left and center CRYSTAL on AGED BRONZE DAISY 5 ARM CHANDELIER vintage 24" W X 17" H / Chain 20"  $650.00

arm at $1,650.00 & a pink (yes, pink) 6 arm at $1,800.00.

Bottom center EDISON STYLE LIGHT BULB 1.75" Diam. X 4.5" H / 60W  $10 to $12.00 each

Available in tubular & classic styles. For use with clear glass lamps and others. Is traditional & modern at the same time.
60 watt. Please note that these bulbs are 240 volts.  FYI…. better for form than function.

Bottom right  GLASS CHANDELIER PRISM 4.25" L X 5/8" $8.00 each

John Brown’s Body Progressive Reggae Band at Maxwell’s Saturday May 12th

JOHN BROWN’S BODY EAST COAST TOUR

Future Roots Octet To Release New Studio Material  and

Appearance at Maxwell’s in Hoboken May 12th

On Saturday, May 12th, progressive reggae band John Brown’s Body performs at Maxwell’s. The octet will be releasing new studio material later this spring.

In the past three years, John Brown’s Body has completed first-ever tours of New Zealand, the UK, and Europe. Their latest album, Amplify, debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Reggae Chart.

Quote from drummer Tommy Benedetti:

“We have a bunch of new music in the works… five dubs and an unreleased fan favorite are being mixed in Boston, by former JBB engineer Craig “Dub Fader” Welsch (10 Ft. Ganja Plant, State Radio, The Aggrolites). We’ve made serious progress on the new full length, seven new tracks are complete, we hope to have it out by late summer. It will be mixed by Matt Saccuccimorano, the man behind our 2002 Spirits All Around Usrecord. Until then, come celebrate with us on tour!”

John Brown’s Body’s “Future Roots” uses reggae as a foundation, but incorporates dub, drum & bass, dancehall, hip hop and other musical explorations to create a sound both timeless and forward. However it’s defined, people are buzzing about this progressive group from Boston and Ithaca, NY. The eight-piece band’s explosive live show boasts super heavy rhythms, a three-piece horn section, air tight drum and bass, and “the most gorgeous melodies in all of modern reggae music” (All Music Guide).

“…some of the most forward-thinking reggae music in the world today.” – LA2DAY
