Join the All Saints Community in Hoboken and help the hungry! The church is turned into a cereal cafe where people can share a meal while making a difference in the lives of those who are hungry. Bring the kids for a fun breakfast and show, and teach them an important lesson about giving. All proceeds benefit the work of the hunger relief organizations in Hoboken: the Hoboken Homeless Shelter, St. Matthew’s Lunchtime Ministry Program, and In Jesus’ Name Emergency Food Pantry.
Empty Bowls is an international campaign that raises thousands of dollars each year for organizations coping with the devastating reality of hunger and homelessness. The event was started in 1990 by a high school art teacher in Michigan who was looking for a way to combine service and the arts. The concept of Empty Bowls is simple: a simple meal is sold at a nominal cost, and each person who attends is invited to bring home a student-made bowl as a reminder that “someone’s bowl is always empty” and that together we can make a difference.
Through the Empty Bowls program, students from All Saints and the broader community have raised more than $100,000 for hunger relief in Hoboken over the course of the last 10 years. In addition, tens of thousands of dollars worth of food has been collected in the annual food drive.
