Hoboken Shelter Spring Fling at Fig Tree Tonight June11th 6:30-9:30pm

This event for the Hoboken Shelter tonight still has a few tickets available…

Hoboken Shelter To Host Spring Fling On Tuesday In Hoboken At The Fig Tree

Spring Fling Honors “Super Star Supporters”

Who Gave The Shelter’s Kitchen Its Much Needed Facelift

Hoboken Shelter new KitchenOn Tuesday, June 11, 2013 from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., Hoboken Shelter will host a Spring Fling at the Fig Tree in Hoboken to thank the deserving local business and craftsmen who donated their time and expertise to rebuild the Shelter kitchen.  Thanks to the generosity of Jason Cameron, Cameron Construction; Andrew Campbell, Eastern Millwork Inc.; and John Nastasi, Nastasi Architects, the Shelter gained a state of the art kitchen.

The event will feature small plates, hors d’oeuvres, and a cash bar. Tickets are still available for $75, but availability is limited so please contact event@hobokenshelter.org to reserve a spot.

After 30 years, the Hoboken Shelter’s kitchen was badly in need of an update before Hurricane Sandy hit.  After the hurricane, thousands of Hoboken residents flocked to the Shelter during their most vulnerable hours seeking help with meals and feeding their families.  This took a significant toll on a kitchen already in need of repair.  On May 10th, the Hoboken Shelter revealed its kitchen to the public at a ribbon cutting ceremony.  Since then, the kitchen has been continuing what it has always done, serving meals to those in need.

“The kitchen is the heart of every home, and it is the heart of our Shelter,” says Jaclyn Cherubini, Executive Director.  “I look forward to honoring our Super Star Supporters who made this happen.”

The three men and their respective crews donated $100,000 of in-kind services.  Cameron and his crew from the DIY Television Network program Man Caves did the framing for the kitchen and a separate laundry room.  His co-host, Tony “Goose” Siragusa generously donated a flat-screen TV for the guests.  Nastasi and his architects designed a kitchen that meets the needs of a facility that feeds hundreds daily.  Campbell and his company designed and built custom cabinetry.  The Shelter will now have a $200,000 kitchen thanks to what Cherubini has dubbed her “Super Star Supporters.”

The NJ Department of Community Affairs has been incredibly generous, giving the Shelter the initial grant to help this project, which was year’s in the making, take shape.  The grant of $50,000 helped purchase industrial equipment for the kitchen.  The Hoboken Shelter is requesting monetary donations to its Virtual Food Drive to help cover the remaining costs of $50,000 associated with the project and restocking the shelves.  During the renovation, the Shelter continued to provide meals to the homeless, with volunteers working in tight quarters making sandwiches and cold foods.  The Hoboken Shelter is asking the community’s help to restock the beautiful new cabinets through a Virtual Food Drive. Empty Bowls Cereal Cafe Fundraiser Sunday April 27th

All Saints Church Hoboken

701 Washington Street Hoboken, NJ 07030

Tickets $8 each, or family ticket for $25

Join the All Saints Community in Hoboken and help the hungry! The church is turned into a cereal cafe where people can share a meal while making a difference in the lives of those who are hungry. Bring the kids for a fun breakfast and show, and teach them an important lesson about giving. All proceeds benefit the work of the hunger relief organizations in Hoboken: the Hoboken Homeless Shelter, St. Matthew’s Lunchtime Ministry Program, and In Jesus’ Name Emergency Food Pantry.

Empty Bowls is an international campaign that raises thousands of dollars each year for organizations coping with the devastating reality of hunger and homelessness. The event was started in 1990 by a high school art teacher in Michigan who was looking for a way to combine service and the arts. The concept of Empty Bowls is simple: a simple meal is sold at a nominal cost, and each person who attends is invited to bring home a student-made bowl as a reminder that “someone’s bowl is always empty” and that together we can make a difference.

Through the Empty Bowls program, students from All Saints and the broader community have raised more than $100,000 for hunger relief in Hoboken over the course of the last 10 years. In addition, tens of thousands of dollars worth of food has been collected in the annual food drive.

There is also a blood drive. To schedule your appointment to give needed blood call 201-792-0736.

There is a also a toiletry drive for the area shelters. On the day of the event please consider bringing the following items for donation…
