The spirit of the Olympic Movement will roll into Hoboken, as the City hosts a variety of athletic and recreation events in celebration of Olympic Day.
Hoboken’s Olympic Day will take place on Saturday, June 23rd starting at 11:00am at Pier A Park and along Sinatra Drive between 1st and 4th Streets, which will be closed to traffic during the event.
Taraje Williams-Murray, a 2004 and 2008 Olympian in the sport of Judo, will be Hoboken’s honorary Olympian and will be demonstrating the sport of Judo. The event will also feature a 5K race, a mini soccer field and gymnastics for kids, table tennis, yoga, fitness trainers, music, and other activities. In the spirit of the Olympic games, all are asked to wear their nation’s colors.

“We are excited to take part in Olympic Day and inspire kids in our community,” said Health and Human Services Director Leo Pellegrini.
“The City of Hoboken is proud to support the Olympic Movement and encourage children to lead healthy, active lives,” added Mayor Dawn Zimmer.
Hoboken’s event is one of more than 700 events taking place nationwide between June 22 and July 1. The events, designed to engage youth and promote the ideals of the Olympic movement, feature athlete appearances, family-friendly activities and interactive learning experiences. This year, the U.S. will almost double its 2011 Olympic Day event total.
Around the world, more than 160 countries take part in the annual celebration. Olympic Day, created in 1948 to commemorate the birth of the modern Olympic Games, focuses on the Olympic values and ideals such as fair play, perseverance, respect and sportsmanship. In the U.S., Olympic Day events range from small gatherings to large, city-wide events.
