Looking back at our Valentine’s Day dinner from 2010, we wanted to share our great experience at Dino and Harry’s with you again. If you are still deciding on where to enjoy dinner tomorrow night, this review should help with your choice! Enjoy!
We decided to go to Dino & Harry’s Steakhouse for our special Valentine’s Day meal, which is located on the corner of 14th Street and Garden Street. Having reservations for 8:00pm, we arrived around 7:30pm to take advantage of their beautiful bar.
If you choose cocktails before dinner like we did you’ll be served in an elegant décor dating back to the late 1800s; hand carved cherry bar, antique clock and mirrors, original tile floor and tin ceiling. A vintage street lamp casts a romantic glow throughout the bar room. This intimate décor makes Dino & Harry’s Steakhouse one of the most distinguished bars in Hoboken.
After heading back to our table and taking a look at the menu, here’s what we decided on:
« French Onion Soup
« Caesar Salad
« 2 Petit Filet Mignon
« Side of Creamed Spinach
« Side of Lyonnaise Potatoes
While we decided on steak for our main course, Dino & Harry’s also serves an array of chicken, seafood and pasta. I want to also note that we’ve had the Fried Vidalia Onions before as a side, and they are crispy and wonderful.
The French Onion Soup and Caesar Salad came out first. The salad was perfectly dressed, seasoned, and the romaine was chopped small enough to not be messy and get a few pieces in each bite. The French Onion Soup was piping hot! After taking a minute for it to cool down, we both shared a few spoonfuls of this indulgent, cheesy soup. The broth was some of the best we’ve ever tasted in a French Onion Soup. We attempted not to finish it, as we didn’t want to get too full before our main course came.
We had a proper break between our appetizers and entrees, enough time that we didn’t feel too full, and not too much time that we were looking for our food.
Once the steaks came out, I don’t think a word was spoken at our table for the next 10 minutes or so. An occasional “Mmmm” or “This is so good” may have been muttered, but we were focused on savoring the wonderful meal. The steaks were cooked perfectly, and the creamed spinach was the perfect complement. While we did put quite a large dent in the potatoes, they reminded me a little too much of upscale breakfast potatoes, and they were a little too greasy at the bottom.
We have heard some complaints about the service from others, but can’t state that first hand since every time we’ve gone we’ve had an attentive server. Even on a packed night like Valentine’s Day, our server was thorough, helpful, and attentive.
We skipped dessert (even though we were tempted), as we had some treats waiting for us at home.
The meal last night was wonderful, and we love having a few “special night out” options right in Hoboken without having to go into the city. This meal is much pricier then some of the others in town, but you know that going in. Next time you’re looking to celebrate that birthday, promotion, or engagement, make sure you give Dino and Harry’s Steakhouse a try.
